Letter to Editor Regarding
the Grange Festival
Emmet County IAGenWeb

- ED. VINDICATOR.- Saturday evening the 2nd inst., was the occasion of the first meeting of the Emmet Co. Grange  in their new meeting room, it was also the occasion of the investment of three new members with full degrees and these two events were properly observed by a good old-fashioned "Grangers' feast." It was intended that members should invite their friends, but the business of the Grange was so arranged as to leave this impracticable, so none but ourselves were present. It was an ocasion long to be pleqasantly remembered, and it goes to demonstrate how it takes the cobwebs of coldness and uncharitableness off our hearts, to come together to such gatherings, exchange greetings, mingle views and have a good sociable time generally.

Towards the close of the entertainment we discovered an aspiring youth more anxious for knowledge of other peopole's afairs than for a right way of obtaining it - climbing a ladder to reach one of the windows. He got out of the way just in time to escape an irrigation with hot coffee, which would have perhaps been a dampeneer on his ambition and learned him to "dip in our swill barrel."

Yours &c.,
"PATRON,"

Estherville, Sept. 7th.

Some indiscreet geniuses, impelled by curiosity, placed a ladder at one of the hall windows during the Grange festival Saturday evening, with a view of obtaining information unlawfully. It may be news to those chaps that the old "he granger" has a musket loaded brim-full of double B shot for such emergencies, and all that prevented them from standing up to eat for some weeks to come, was the unfortunate omission of gun caps in the purchases of ammunition.
