Lewis and
Albert Kash are enterprising and progressive farmers of
Richland township, owning the old homestead of three hundred and
fifty acres on sections 14 and 15. They are both natives of the
township in which they reside, the former born on the 19th of
June, 1869, and the latter on the 23d of April, 1871, their
parents being Albert and Kate (Yesley) Kash, both of whom were
natives of Bohemia. The father was born. April 23, 1836, while
the mother's birth occurred on the 8th of November, 1836. They
were married on the 12th of February, 1860, and in the same year
started for the new world, having determined to try their fortune
on this side of the Atlantic. On reaching the United States they
made their way direct to Iowa and settled on a small farm of
forty or eighty acres in Delaware county. They met many hardships
and difficulties in the early days of their residence here, but
as the years passed on prosperity attended them and subsequently
the father purchased more land from time to time until he was the
owner of the farm now in possession of his sons, comprising three
hundred and fifty acres of valuable land on sections 14 and 15,
Richland township. Throughout his remaining days he carried on
general agricultural pursuits, bringing his land to a high state
of cultivation and transforming it into rich and productive
fields. His life's labors were ended April 14, 1910. He had for
about five years survived his wife, who passed away on the 7th of
September, 1905. To Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kash were born six
children, five of whom still survive as follows: Josephine, who
is the wife of Frank Wesley, of Richland township; John, a
resident of Richland township; Mary, who gave her hand in
marriage to Thomas Houska, of Richland township: and Lewis and
Albert.
The two last named were reared in Richland
township, enjoying the educational advantages offered by the
public schools, while their business training was that received
under the direction of their father in the cultivation and
development of the farm. Neither had any desire to choose another
line of occupation and after attaining manhood they purchased the
old homestead farm of three hundred and fifty acres in Richland
township, operating the place in partnership. They carry on
general farming and also make a specialty of dairying, both
branches of their business returning to them a gratifying annual
income. Albert Kash is one of the directors of the creamery
company at Strawberry Point. Their business affairs are carefully
and systematically managed and energy and ambition have led them
far along the high road to success.
On the 4th of March, 1902, Albert Kash was united
in marriage to Miss Zetta Laity, of Richland township. The
brothers give their political allegiance to the democratic party
and Albert has ably served as township trustee and also as a
school director. They have spent their entire lives in Delaware
county and are widely recognized as representative farmers and
valued citizens. |
