Albert Glass

Agriculturist

   Albert Glass, a representative and successful agriculturist of Delaware County, owns and operates an excellent farm on section 3, Coffins Grove township. His birth occurred in Winneshiek county, Iowa on the 10th of July, 1876, his parents being Lawrence and Elizabeth (Jayme) Glass, both of whom were natives of Germany. They emigrated to the United States in the '40s and located first in Pennsylvania, but at the end of a year or two removed to Winneshiek county, Iowa, where they took up their abode on a farm. Subsequently they settled in Clayton county, this state, and there spent the remained of their lives. They became the parents of twelve children, as follows: Charles, who is a resident of Winneshiek county, Iowa; Fred, living at Strawberry Point, this state; Elizabeth, who is the wife of Adolph Richter of Texas; Anna, the deceased wife of Paul Beuherer; Lawrence, Jr., who is a resident of Strawberry Point, Iowa; Philip, of Portland, Oregon; Carolina, the wife of Michael Krats; Mary, of Strawberry Point; Daniel, living in Sumner, Iowa; Albert, of this review; William, living in Richland township, Delaware county; and Philip, who has passed away.

     Albert Glass attended the common schools in the acquirement of an education. His parents died when he was thirteen years of age, and he then lived with his brother Fred until he had attained the age of eighteen. Subsequently he resided with another brother until he had reached his majority and at that time, in association with his brother, William, purchased the old Wood farm in Richland township, Delaware county. At the end of three years he sold his interest to his brother and bought the farm which he has since operated and which lies on section 3, Coffins Grove township. He erected substantial and commodious buildings on the property and has made other improvements which greatly enhanced its value and attractiveness. He makes a specialty of dairying and in all of his undertakings as an agriculturist has met with gratifying and well deserved success.

     On the 11th of February, 1902, Mr. Glass was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Hilliger, a native of Delaware county, Iowa, and a daughter of Reinhart and Christina (Sandhagen) Hilliger. Her father is a native of Germany and her mother an American by birth. Our subject and his wife have two children: Vera E., who was born on the 22d of February, 1904; and Velma M., whose birth occurred October 18, 1909.

    In politics Mr. Glass is a republican, while his religious faith is indicated by his membership in the German Lutheran church, to which his wife also belongs. The circle of his friends is a wide one, for he has won the warm regard and esteem of all with whom hw has been associated in business or social relations.
