Higby, William Eugene (1884-1967) — also known as William E. Higby — of Monument, El Paso County, Colo. Born in Garden Grove, Decatur County, Iowa, January 26, 1884. Republican. Member of Colorado state house of representatives, 1933-40; Speaker of the Colorado State House of Representatives, 1939-40; member of Colorado state senate, 1941-43; Lieutenant Governor of Colorado, 1943-47; delegate to Republican National Convention from Colorado, 1948. Died in Monument, El Paso County, Colo., 1967 (age about 83 years). Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Coiner, Beverly Waugh (b. 1857) — also known as Beverly W. Coiner — of Mt. Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa; Tacoma, Pierce County, Wash. Born in Leon, Decatur County, Iowa, December 20, 1857. Republican. Lawyer; mayor of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, 1882-84; Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney, 1887-89, 1895-96; major in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War; Washington Republican state chair, 1910-12; U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, 1912-13. Methodist. Member, Freemasons; Knights Templar. Burial location unknown.

Relatives: Son of Erasmus Tully Coiner and Mary E. (Young) Coiner; married, November 1, 1880, to Ida Hare.

Porter, John Clinton (1871-1959) — also known as John C. Porter — of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Calif. Born in Leon, Decatur County, Iowa, 1871 to Reverend Josephus Clinton Porter and Mathilda Catherine Gardner. Democrat. Telegraph operator; automobile accessories business; mayor of Los Angeles, Calif., 1929-33; defeated, 1933, 1941. Christian. Petitions for his recall as mayor were filed in 1932; petitioners, led by his political adversaries on city council, charged that "the Mayor is incompetent, inefficient and unsatisfactory" and that he "has brought ridicule and insult to Los Angeles and its citizenry by his conduct." The recall, and nine candidates who sought to replace him, was defeated. Died, of a lung and heart condition, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Calif., May 27, 1959 (age about 87 years). Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park - Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, Calif.

Ecton, Zales Nelson (1898-1961) — also known as Zales N. Ecton — of Manhattan, Gallatin County, Mont.; Bozeman, Gallatin County, Mont. Born in Weldon, Decatur County, Iowa, April 1, 1898. Republican. Farmer; member of Montana state house of representatives, 1933-37; member of Montana state senate, 1937-46; U.S. Senator from Montana, 1947-53. Christian. Member, American Legion; Farm Bureau; Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Elks; Freemasons; Shriners. Died in Bozeman, Gallatin County, Mont., March 3, 1961 (age 62 years, 336 days). Interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Bozeman, Mont.

Relatives: Son of Aaron Smith Ecton and Delphia (McVay) Ecton; married, November 25, 1920, to Vera B. Harris (1898-1980).
