                         MISMATED COUPLES

ISABEL BAXTER has commenced divorce proceedings in the district court
against her husband, ROBERT C. BAXTER.  The plaintiff alleges that their
marriage occurred at Goshen, Mo., in l878, and that on the l7th of
November, l892, the defendant was sent to the Missouri penitentiary for
the period of two years by the U.S. Court, on a charge of
counterfeiting.  She prays for a decree granting her a divorce and the
custody of their children, ALMA, aged l5 and ANNA, aged 7.  E.W. CURRY
appears for the plaintiff.

Note: This was the first time this kind of column has been posted since
I started viewing the Journal films from l883.  It is being posted in
the later editions, along with "tons" of court cases.  WHAT HAPPENED???
(This is the only one that I copied - just FYI.)

Oh yes, I looked in Webster's for the meaning of the word - AVERS..--it
means: to assert with confidence; to declare. (another new word for me).
