In the late 1930's Arthur Valentine (1891 - 1954) founded the
Valentine Lunch System, low-cost start-up diners with headquarters in
Wichita, Kansas. Dinky Diner was originally a pre-fabricated Valentine
diner, built in 1947 (1967 by another account) and located in Ellsworth,
Kansas, and known there as the Elkhorn Diner. Elkhorn Diner closed and
reopened as the Fabulous 50's Diner around the year 2000. It was
purchased by Vickie Reed and moved to Decatur in April of 2005. It
opened for business that year on August 5th. GOP Presidential hopeful
Mike Huckabee hosted a "Main Street American Family Breakfast" at the
Dinky Diner at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015. Dinky Diner's tag
line is, "Seats 300, 35 at a time." Valentine information from kshs.org/kansaspedia |
