~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MRS. CULP and daughter, BETTY, visited MRS. ROBERTS' room last week.
HELEN MCINTOSH entered MISS MEEK's room last week.
JOSEPHINE BARRY entered school last week after a three weeks' absence.
MISS MEEK's room had a quarter day holiday last week.
The sixth, seventh and eighth grades will hold a preliminary contest Tuesday evening.
MRS. SULLIVAN's room had their six weeks' examinations last week.
MILDRED FULLER was absent from MISS STEPHENS' room last week.
The Leon High School baseball team played Osceola last Friday. The score was 9 to 2, in favor of Leon.
Osceola will probably play a game here next Friday.
The Triangular Declamatory Contest will be held in Leon Friday night, April 15th.
The Junior Class Play, "Diamonds and Hearts," which was given at the high school assembly last Thursday evening, was well attended, receipts being about $70.
The public speaking class are planning a program to give before the high school assembly Tuesday morning.
While here last week coaching the Junior Play, MRS. WASSON gave Leon contestants extra help for the contest to be held here Friday night. JOHN STOCKTON will represent Leon in the oratorical class, MARJORY BROWN in the dramatic and FLORENCE GATES in the humorous. Osceola and Lamoni are the other contending schools. Leon has won the cup for two years in succession. If they can win this time the trophy will remain in our possession.
The contest will be held in the Presbyterian Church. The program will commence at 8:00 o'clock.
A grade declamatory contest is to be held in the county in the near future. Only seventh and eighth grade pupils are eligible. The seventh and eighth grades of Leon will have their preliminary in the eighth grade room Tuesday evening.
The P.T.A. purchased their moving picture machine last week and gave their first entertainment last Friday evening. The picture was wonderful and was thoroughly enjoyed by the two large audiences. The executive committee of the P.T.A. had enough money raised to pay for the machine and for the picture. It was thought best to have an extra lamp on hand in case of an emergency. There is a small deficit for this equipment. The children are to give a candy sale on Wednesday to clear this up.
Plans are under way to show some educational industrial films in the near future. A picture for the smaller children will also be shown at this time.
The 7th and 8th grade preliminary declamatory contest was held Tuesday evening in the 8th grade room. MARGARET ALEXANDER won first and JAMES COLEMAN second. They will represent the grades in county contest April 30th. MISSES STEPHENS and PENNIWELL and MRS. ROBERTS acted as judges.
The eighth grade class play, "Al Martin's Country Store," a comedy drama, will be given Friday evening, April 22nd, at the high school assembly.
