Patroness Hall

Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa
In 1909 a new dormitory for girls was built and named after a society of loyal Lamoni matrons who had formed several years prior with the purpose of helping Graceland and her students. When the dormitory was completed, it was named Patroness Hall after the women who substantially helped the college. Belle Royce, instructor in normal and preparatory subjects, was named dean of women in 1909 and was the matron of the original Patroness Residence Hall.

The dormitory included a sunny, spacious dining hall where three times a day the student residents from both the boys and girls dormitories meet around the long tables.
A new Patroness Hall was built ca. late 1950's.

Burgess Hall was a basic unit formed for the east wing of Patroness Residence Hall in September of 1956. It was named in honor of former Graceland College president Sam A. Burgess.

Irwin House was a basic residence unit name given to the west wing of Patroness Hall in September of 1956. The house was named in honor of Charles E. Irwin Sr., who taught history, preparatory, normal and economics courses from 1912 to 1918 and 1920 to 1923. He was later ordained a bishop in the RLDS Church.

Belvera House was one of the houses located in Patroness Hall during the 1970's.

Today Patroness Hall houses university offices, including housekeeping and the Student Financial Aid offices.
