Last Friday night was a glorious one to behold. All nature was at her best. The moon shown on the silvery snow that glistened everywhere. The jingle of the sleigh bells could be heard from all directions and the merry laugh of the occupants made life a glorious gift of God.

The commodious home of MISS PEARL OSBORN was all ablaze with splendor, the walls and arches of the rooms being decorated with mistletoe, while Chinese lanterns hung from the gateway to the entrance of the parlors. The occasion being the leap year reception given by the MISSES MARGARET HURST, LILLIAN STOKES, JESSE EVANS and PEARL OSBORN.

Unique invitations had been sent out to the young ladies and gentlemen and the names of the young men placed in a hat and each lady drew a name which designated who would be her escort to the reception.

At eight o'clock the guests began to arrive and as the clock chimed about 8:30, all had come, and in the language of the school boy were "having a great time" in playing games and dancing.

Each lady was required to bring an untrimmed hat which was given to her escort to be trimmed, the ladies occupying one room, while the boys trimmed their hats in another. The judges, MISSES GRACE ALBAUGH, EDNA GUILFORD, CLELLA BASHAW and GRACE BROWN awarded CARL PARRISH the royal prize, while ORA TEALE secured the booby. (*Ahemm-prize)

After everybody had enjoyed a good laugh at the expense of the boys who had shown their great skill in millinery work, cards were given to each of the guests, the girls holding the cards which asked a question and the boys holding the answers. The girls were then required to rustle around and find her partner for supper, and the one holding the answer corresponding to the question on her card was the lucky one.

At ten o'clock supper was announced by the maids, MISSES FANNY EVANS and LELLAH OSBORN. One feature of the supper was the tasty manner in which they served their ice. An orange was cut at the top, the meat taken out and the orange ice served in the peel.

Supper lasted until midnight and when all had feasted upon the delicacies spread before them, beautiful and comic souvenirs were given each guest. They were all placed in a large box, a ribbon attached to each souvenir and the lid placed over the box with the ribbon hanging out. Each lady and gentleman gathered around the box and chose a ribbon, the lid was then raised and the house was in an uproar for some time laughing at the funny things which were to be taken home and held sacred for long years to come in memory of this reception.

As the wee small hours of morn approached, the guests all departed, showering the hostess with praise for the elegant manner in which they were entertained, and the boys only regretting that leap year does not come again until l904.

The guests from abroad were: Messrs. George Russell, Harry Arnold and Howard Culver, Misses Grace and Edna Brown, Mable Judd and Anna Sparger, all being from Garden Grove.
