An Important Business Change

A change of much interest in the business circles of Leon occurred Monday of last week when the half interest of GEORGE FARQUHAR in the hardware business of Farquhar Bros., was purchased by and turned over to his two nephews, E.W., and FRANK FARQUHAR, sons of HORACE FARQUHAR, the other member of the firm. The new firm will be known as Farquhar & Sons, and the store will be conducted along the same lines that has made the establishment so popular and well known in the past. The Farquhar Store was established in l862, SAMUAL FARQUHAR, father of GEORGE and HORACE FARQUHAR, coming to Leon from Garden Grove for that purpose. In the early days of the store, MR. FARQUHAR had to have his stock hauled overland to Leon as no railroad reached our city at that time. Often he drove stock to Keokuk and Ottumwa where he sold them and then returned with a load of stoves and other stock for his hardware store. The establishment prospered and in l887 he sold out to his two sons, GEORGE and HORACE FARQUHAR, who have since conducted the subiness most successfully. GEO. FARQUHAR's interest passed to E.W., and FRANK FARQUHAR, Monday, January 20th, and they are now ready to greet the old patrons of the store and welcome many new ones.
