Dallas Center Newspaper Files To Be Donated To The Town

As A Part Of The Centennial Observance

Mr. Russell W. Boyles, editor and publisher of the Dallas Center Times and owner of the files of newspapers published in Dallas Center, will donate these files to the town as a part of the Centennial observance, August 10 through 16, 1969.

The files, though not entirely complete, date back to January 3, 1878, ninety-one years ago.  They contain interesting information as well as accounts of historical significance concerning those who at some time have called Dallas Center "My Home Town".

It is the hope that these files may be kept permanently by the town in a secure and suitable place.  Since they are invaluable and irreplaceable, and because of the deterioration of the paper, they will need to be handled carefully and used on special and supervised occasions important to the history of the town and with the approval of the town council.  Thus, they may be preserved for future generations.

Mr. Boyles, with an interest in saving future editions of Dallas Center's newspapers, will donate a subscription of the Dallas Center Times to be bound and included with the early files.  Brenton State Bank agrees to underwrite the annual cost of the binding of these future publications.

There are 24 bound volumes of Dallas Center papers.  Some of the older volumes are in need of repairs or rebinding.  There are also a number of papers which have never been bound.  Mrs. Laurence N. Baldner has assumed the responsibility of the binding, rebinding and repairs.  She has received permission from Mayor Thomas Scott to solicit donations from clubs and interested and civic-minded individuals for this worthy project.
