George Barton was born in 1834/1836 in England to Thomas Barton, and died in Boone, Dallas County , Iowa .  He married Penelope Mary Poile on the 27^th of October 1856 in the Parish Church , Croydon, Surrey , England .  She was born in 1834 in England and the daughter of John Poile.  When George and Penelope married, George’s occupation was Carman and George was living in or near Norwood , Croydon.  George’s father was a Carpenter and Penelope’s father was a Publican.  They were married according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church by Banns.  The curate was Frederick Kile Harford.  The marriage was signed by George Barton X his mark; Penelope Mary Poile; in the presences of witnesses of Walter Baron X his mark and Eliza Brooker (sic Brooken) X her mark.  George, Penelope and their three children arrived in the United States in 1875 according to the 1895 Iowa State Census.  At that time George was 62 and resided in Boone, Dallas County , Iowa .  In the 1900 Federal Census, it shows George as the father-in-law born in April 1836 age 64 and widower.  By then George could read and write.  He was also living with his daughter, Anna and her husband, John Feller.

1.           George P. Born August 1857, England ; died Iowa . 1900 Census shows he came to the U.S. In 1871 and was a farmer.  He married Emily in 1881 in Iowa .  She was born July 1863 in Illinois , and died in Dallas County , Iowa . Their children were:

1.2       Lottie born May 1884 in Dallas County , Iowa

1.3       Della B. Born March 1887 in Dallas County , Iowa

1.4       Harry L. Born February 1898 in Dallas County , Iowa

2.           Ellen Mary born April 1860, Croydon, England, County of Surrey; died 21 September 1939 at her home on West Main Street, Warrenton, Missouri.  She married (1) Jason Gilfillan on 6 July 1879 in Dallas County , Iowa , son of Amaziah and Belinda Bailey Gilfillan.  He was born Jan 1852 in Clinton County , Indiana and died January 1906 in Pendleton , Missouri .  Ellen married (2) John B. Turner 18 December 1907 in Missouri .  He died September 1939 in Warrenton , Missouri .  A handwritten note by her daughter, Blanche, reads that she came to Des Moins (sic Moines), Iowa with her parents in March 1872.  The children of Ellen and Jason Gilfillan are:

2.1        Blanche Rose born March 1881 in Booneville , Iowa ; died 1959, Des Moines , Iowa ; buried Oakland Cemetery , DeSoto , Iowa .  She married Earl Corwin Scarborough in 1901, son of William and Alma Beck Scarborough.  He was born 3 June 1883 in Adel , Iowa and died 3 March 1939 in DeSoto , Iowa . Their children:

2.1.2        Louise Frances born 15 July 1903, DeSota , Iowa ; died 24 December        1998, Minnesota .

2.1.3        Morris Dale born 5 December 1908, DeSoto , Iowa ; died 1 April 1963,     San Francisco , California .

2.2        Frank Boyd born October 1888; died 26 July 1925, Lac Qui Parle , Minnesota .

2.3        Cora Celeste born January 1880 in Polk County , Iowa .  She married Ernest W. (Bill) McKissic in 1902 in Dallas County , Iowa , son of William and Mary Stephens McKissic.  He was born 1876 in Dallas County , Iowa .  Cora was known as Aunt Code.  Their children:

2.3.1        William born 20 April 1907 Warren County, Iowa ; died January 1987,    Tucson , Pima County , Arizona .

2.3.2        Myrtie born 1905 Warren County, Iowa.

2.4        Anna Opal born June 1885, Iowa ; died Missouri .  She married Joseph Abington.  He was born about 1883; born and died in Missouri .  They had one daughter still living at the time of this report.

2.5        Albert George born 10 June 1892 in Commerce, Polk County , Iowa ; died 2 October 1958, Knoxville , Marion County, Iowa.  He married Clara Bell Petrie 3 September 1913.  She was born about 1892 in Carlisle, Warren County, Iowa, and died 1949 in Des Moines , Polk County , Iowa .  They had one son:

2.5.1        Jason Petrie Gilfillan born 5 July 1914, Carlisle, Warren County, Iowa;    died 1 January 1978, Kalamazoo , Michigan .       

3.           Anna born May 1866, England , Surrey County ; died 25 December 1936, Iowa .  She married John Feller in 1886 in Booneville , Iowa , son of Henry and Mary Beschta Feller.  John was born 15 October 1844 in Puttlelange , Alsace - Lorraine , France and died 26 February 1928 in Redfield, Dallas County , Iowa .  Their children were:

3.1        Clarence Pete born September 1887, Dallas County , Iowa

3.2        Caroline Ethel born 6 July 1889, Dallas County , Iowa ; died 20 July 1973.  She married Charles Frederick Cave 22 February 1912.  He was born 28 September 1883 in Redfield, Dallas County , Iowa , and died 18 February 1971 in Jefferson, Greene County , Iowa .  They had one known daughter.

3.3        Valentine John born February 1892, Dallas County , Iowa .  He married Marguerite.  They had one known daughter.
