Burness Kastner (1920 - 1973)

Funeral services for Burness Kastner were held Monday, September 10, 1973, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig with Rev. R.J. Ratzlaff officiating. Mrs. G.M. Johnson was the organist and Mrs. Erie Grell and Mrs. Ralph Struck sang "Just As I Am" and "The Lord is My Shepherd."

Burness Lowell, son of Louis R. and Lydia, nee Thiede, Kastner, was born at Schleswig, Iowa on June 10, 1920 and died at his home on Saturday, September 8, 1973. He was educated in Crawford County. In 1935, he became a member, by confirmation, of the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church, Schleswig, Iowa.

On June 12, 1940, he married LaVina Klotz and to this union was born five children. Mr. Kastner had been actively engaged in farming and was a faithful member of the United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife LaVina, four children, Ronald of Omaha,, Nebraska, Karen, Mrs. Melvin Miller of Schleswig, Robert and Roberta both at home, three grandchildren, his father Louis R. Kastner of Schleswig, his sister, Mrs. Cyrenus Knief of Deloit, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lydia, a son Edward, and a brother Orville. He attained the age of 53 years, 2 months and 29 days.

Pallbearers were: Leo Klotz, Gary Knief, Gayle Knief, Orben Kastner, Rawlo Kastner and Verdell Kastner. Honorary bearers were The Westside Playboys. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

Carl L. Lorenzen (1921 - 1992)

Carl L. Lorenzen was born at Deloit, Iowa, June 13, 1921, the son of Martin, Sr., and Lydia Sherman Lorenzen. He was raised in Deloit and received his education there. He served his country during World War II, from August of 1942 until December of 1945, as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps. Upon his discharge he returned home to Deloit.

On December 23, 1956, Carl was united in marriage with Donna K. Clarken at Denison, Iowa. They made their home in Deloit where Carl was a carpenter until his retirement in 1977.

Carl died Monday afternoon, December 14, 1992, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 71 years, six months, and one day. He attended the United Methodist Church in Deloit and was a member of the Mallard, Iowa American Legion Post.

Including his parents, Carl was preceded in death by three brothers, Martin, Jr., Harry, and John Lorenzen and one sister, LaVerne Gampp.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Donna K. Lorenzen of Deloit, three children and their spouses, LeeAnna and Ed York of Windover, Nevada, Jerry and Kim Lorenzen of Deloit, and Deb and Ron Bernholtz of Carroll, Iowa; ten grandchildren, John, Tammy, Jason, Tabitha, Eddy, Nicole, Jeremy, Jacquelyn, Stephen and Megan; seven great grandchildren, one grand dog Auggie; one sister, Helen Peters of Denison, and two brothers and their wives, Robert and Bev Lorenzen of Humboldt, Iowa, and Richard and Carolyn Lorenzen of Deloit. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Private family graveside funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 1992, at Deloit, Iowa, with the Rev. Al Wagner officiating. Interment was in the Deloit Cemetery. The Pfannebecker Funeal [sic] Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Dale Alfred Sievertsen (1929 - 2002)

Dale Alfred Sievertsen was born September 1, 1929, the son of Alfred and Leota Hendricksen Sievertsen. He died May 8, 2002, at his home in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of seventy-two.

Dale was born in Denison, Iowa and was baptized at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. In 1948, Dale enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany as an engineer, during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1952.

On January 3, 1954, he was united in marriage to Georgine Bandow at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home in Omaha and were blessed with the birth of a daughter.

Dale worked for a tree service and for Alamito Dairy for a short time. He then accepted a position with the City of Omaha in the Forestry Division as a tree trimmer, later being promoted to Forestry Foreman, a positioin he held until 1991, when he became the Assistant City Forester. Dale retired in 1991, after 32 years of service.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was especially close to his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and working in his yard. His relaxation was his work, and after his retirement, he relaxed by helping his neighbors and friends with their yards. He was a licensed Arborist and a member of the V.F.W. Post 247 of Omaha.

He is survived by his loving wife, Georgine of Omaha; his daughter Becky Lavelle and her husband, Larry of Omaha; two very special grandchildren: Patrick Dale and Anne Elizabeth, both of Omaha; one sister, Lois Bliesman of Denison; one nephew, Tedd Bliesman and his wife, Nancy of Arion; his aunt, Hazel Hendricksen of Denison; three sisters-in-law: Berndine Petersen and her husband, Gilbert of Ida Grove, Iowa; Virgine Ohl of Denison and Jean Bandow of Manilla; two brothers-in-law: Edwin Bandow and his wife, Helen of Manilla; and Irwin Bandow of Estherville, Iowa; a best friend, Gary Belcasro of Omaha, many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2002 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Thomas Buzbee officiated the service and Nancy Bliesman provided the service music of "On Eagle's Wings". The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Keith McKee (1927 - 2000)

Dennis Keith McKee was born September 16, 1927, the son of Ralph and Grace Edwards McKee. He died December 31, 2000 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-three.

Dennis was born in Dow City, Iowa and received his education in the Dow City Schools, graduating from Dow City High School with the class of 1946. After graduation, he ran a gas station for a year and later worked for Denison Dairy for five years. Dennis was also employed by Dr. Pepper, Wells Blue Bunny, and was a truck driver salesman. After his retirement, Dennis took a position as a guard at Farmland Foods.

On August 28, 1949, Dennis was united in marriage to Betty Miller. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children, Mike, Steve and David. Later, Dennis was united in marriage to Helen Petersen on February 6, 1971.

He enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, camping and visiting with friends over a game of cards. Dennis was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team, watching them on television whenever he could. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a former member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley, who died in infancy and Ralph; two sisters: Nadine Russell and Patricia Miller; and one grandson, Dennis L. McKee May 11, 1971, in infancy.

He is survived by three sons: Mike and his wife, Marla of Denison; Steve and his wife, Karen of Liberty, Missouri; and David and his wife, Pam of Denison; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., January 3, 2001 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dow City, Iowa. Elder Francis Harper Jr. officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Dow City Cemetery. Wanda Weber provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". those serving as pallbearers were: Bruce Dahleen, Scott Burgess, John Sondag, Steven Wight, Clark Meyer and Ron Jahn. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the R.L.D.S. Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Fredrich J. Jacobs (1926 - 1995)

Fredrich (Freddie) J. Jacobs was born April 7, 1926, the son of Albert and Veronica Hansen Jacobs. He died at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa, on Wednesday, August 16, 1995, at the age of sixty-nine years.

Freddie was born near Battle Creeck, Iowa and was baptized on april 21, 1926. He was later confirmed at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, Iowa, in 1941. he received his education in a rural school near his home.

On August 27, 1972, Freddie was united in marriage to Lois Weise at the United Church of Christ in Schliswig, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm near Schleswig.

Freddie was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig and was on the soil Conservation Board for over twenty years. He was also active in the Ficketts Community. Freddie loved the outdoor life of farming and raising livestock, which he did until retiring in 1994. In his free time he enjoyed socializing with his friends and playing a game of cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Gloria and Sharon. Survivors include: his wife, Lois of Schleswig; two step-daughters, Marcia Wenberg and her husband, Dave of Sioux City; Gail Scheuring and her husband, Richard of Denison; five step-grandchildren, Mark and Jeff Wenberg of Sioux City; John, Stephany and Matthew Scheuring of Denison; one sister, Wilma Brockmann and her husband, William of Schleswig; other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 1995, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa, with Rev. James Schatz officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for the trio, Barb Buffum, Pam Gronau and Janet Lafrentz and congregational hymn "We Plough the Field". Pallbearers were Delbert Gierstorf, Harvey Westphalen, Bruce Paulsen, Eldo Paulsen, Ralph Reincke, Edwin Rusch and Hans Jess. The family invited everyone n attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funer Home of Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

George Beaman, Jr. (1921 - 1999)

George Beaman, Jr. was born on May 12, 1921 to George and Rose Lingle Beaman on the same farm where his father had been born. He received his entire education in the Deloit Public School where he participated in sports activities and speech. He was graduated from Deloit High School with the class of 1939. He was active in 4-H and received several honors in speech.

On September 5, 1943 George was united in marriage to Ione Nicholson. They made their home on the farm. Their union was blessed with three children, Joan, James and Linda.

On February 28, 1944 he entered the United States Navy and was stationed at Farragut, Idaho, San Bruno, California and the island of Saipan. After his discharge from the service on March 5, 1946, he returned to the home farm where he lived the rest of his life.

George was a member of First United Methodist Church in Denison, Iowa, a member of American Legion, served as Superintendent at the Crawford County Fair and was a former member of the Crawford County Hospital Board and of the Zoning Board. He enjoyed traveling, sports and was very involved in all of his grandchildren's activities.

George passed away at Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 20, 1999. At the time of death he had attained the age of 78 years, 3 months and 8 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 56 years, Ione of Deloit, Iowa, daughter, Joan and her husband Roger Reinking of Pierson, Iowa, son, James of Deloit, Iowa, daughter, Linda Borchers of Holstein, Iowa, four grandchildren; Mark Reinking of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dean Reinking of Ames, Iowa, John Borchers of Brookings, South Dakota and Julie Borchers of Holstein, Iowa and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 23, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Denison, Iowa. The Reverends Kenneth and Chrisa Ferguson officiated. Vocal selections were by Brad Roos singing "Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace" and "On Eagles Wings" accompanied by Patti Bekkerus on the organ. Pall bearers were Mark Reinking, Dean Reinking, John Borchers, Dale Gronau, Michal Fink and Dean Argotsinger. Burial was in Deloit Cemetery at Deloit, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

LaRue (Brodersen) Schultz (1920 - 2004)

LaRue Schultz was born March 3, 1920, the daughter of Hugo and Lillian Ericksen Brodersen. She died Monday, September 20, 2004 at Maple Hieghts Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa at the age of eighty-four.

LaRue was born on a farm in Schleswig, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on Septemberr 16, 1920, and was confirmed on April 14, 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She received her education in a rural school near her home.

On April 28, 1937, she was united in marriage to Melvin Schultz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of three children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her home, gardening, taking care of her plants, and listening to music. She spent many years in the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton where she stayed active and enjoyed visiting with her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, LeRoy Brodersen; and her husband, Melvin in 2003. She is survived by her children, DeWayne Schultz and his wife, Denice of Danbury, Iowa; Connie Sheeley and her husband, Larry of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Gary Schultz of Schleswig; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly Borre and her husband, Clarence of Arlington Heights, Illinois: one sister-in-law, Melinda Meyer and her husband, Edwin of Chicago, Illinois; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 23, 2004 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Nancy Bielenberg provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "Nearer, My God to Thee", "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" and "Onward, Christian Soldiers". Those serving as pallbearers were: Darrell Brodersen, Jason Schultz, Damon Schultz, Erick Sheeley, Aaron Schultz and Jim Stender. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them at the church in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Walter Grell (1921 - 1996)

Walter Grell was born on a farm in Paradise Township near Dow City, Iowa, June 9, 1921, the son of John and Amanda Lafrenz Grell. He was raised on the farm and received his education in the local rural schools.

Walter died Friday morning, July 5, 1996 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 75 years and 26 days.

Including his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, Fritz and John Grell and one sister, Lydia Wittrock.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife of over 56 years, Wiladene Slechta Grell of Deloit, Iowa, four children and their spouses, Bonnie and William C. Winey of Deloit, Iowa, Dean and Karen Grell of Vail, Iowa, Ronda and Brant Hollensbe of West Des Moines, Iowa and Wanda and Kevin Freese of Vail, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, one brother, Richard Grell and his wife, Donna of Omaha, Nebraska, one sister, Helen Lambert of Dow City, Iowa, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Les and Millie Slechta of Vail, Iowa, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 8, 1996 at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, Iowa with the Rev. Marshall Brown officiating. Music for the service was provided by Glenn Freese singing "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and "Under His Wings" with Kevin Freese and Jean Ang serving as organists. Honorary bearers were his granddaughters, Carmen Hoffmann, Crystal Snitker, Jennifer Grell, Sonda Jordan, Mia Freese and Amanda Grell. Casket bearers were his grandons, Joseph Grell, Justin Freese, Aaron Grell, Jarred Freese, and Michael Grell and his nephew, Jim Slechta. Walter's last ride to the Vail Cemetery for interment was given on his wagon pulled by his team of horses. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Walter Lewis Hamann (1926 - 2001)

Robert Walter Lewis Hamann was born March 1, 1926, the son of Adolph and Anna Tank Hamann. He died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of seventy-four.

Robert was born on a farm in Morgan Township, Schleswig, Iowa and received his education in rural schools near his home. He was handicapped with Down Syndrome, but was very mild natured and a good helper on the farm with his parents and brother.

Robert liked helping with the chores and shelling corn with a hand corn sheller. As a young man he could easily shovel off a wagon load of corn. He also liked sawing wood for the kitchen stove. After his parents died, Robert made his home with his brother, Edmund and sister-in-law, Leonore.

He enjoyed Senior Citizens Day and eating lunch with the Dorcas Society. He loved fishing and traveling. In later years, Robert enjoyed helping Leonore in the house. Robert entered the Willow Dale Nursing Home in March of 1999.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Edna Bumann, Lillie Wellendorf, and twin sisters in infancy. Survivors include one brother, Edmund Hamann and his wife, Leonore of Schleswig; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Douglas Searles officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "Jesus Loves Me". Honorary pallbearers were: John Bahnsen, Richard Messer, Tom Phillips, Earl Bumann, Jim Fleenor and Ed Skinner. Pallbearers were: Richard Bumann, Gaylen Bahnsen, Robert Bumann, Scott Bumann, Roger Clausen, Curtis Phillips and Jeff Fleenor. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Violet Lydia (Sleister) Rasmussen (1923 - 1992)

Violet, daughter of Chancey and Martha Kittler Sleister, was born Sept. 11, 1923 in Greeley Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She attended rural school, graduating from Manilla High School in 1941.

On May 28, 1941, Violet was united in marriage with Chriss Rasmussen at her parents' home. She was a homemaker and ran several cafes over the years in manilla. She also worked at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home and the Manilla Manor. Her husband died in 1983.

Violet thoroughly enjoyed baking for others and playing bingo and doing handiwork. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Violet's health started to fail about a month ago. She was diagnosed with lung cancer a week before her death at her daughter's home in Manilla on Saturday, Dec. 5, 1992 at the age of 69 years, two months and 24 days.

Survivors include her children: Ronald Rasmussen and his wife, Mary of Manilla, John Rasmussen and his wife, Darlene of Manilla and Linda and her husband, LeRoy Palmer of Manilla; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister Edythe and her husband, Edward Schwieso of Irwin; a sister-in-law, Ola Sleister of Manilla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla with Pastor Glenn Wiechmann officiating. Music was congregation singing of "How Great Thou Art" and "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross" which was sung by Bill and Louise Ahrenholtz. Bonnie Lorenzen served as organist. Interment was at Astor Cememtery near Manilla. Pallbearers were Keith Schwieso, Richard Schwieso, Eugene Sleister, Kevin Schwieso, Tom Crispin and Gary Greer.

Lynda Marie Jensen (1916 - 2000)

Lynda Marie Jensen was born March 4, 1916 at Defiance, Iowa. She was the daughter of Nels Jensen and Martha Hansen Jensen. She died Saturday, October 7, 2000 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of eighty-four.

She was united in marriage to Vernon Schoening February 15, 1935 at Arcadia, Iowa by Rev. Theo Tews. This union was blessed with three children, Donald, JoAnn and Alan.

After their marriage they farmed near Dow City and later moved to Primghar, Galva and Storm Lake where Vernon was in construction work. They returned to make their home in Denison in 1965. Vernon passed away June 28, 1970.

On March 19, 1982 Lynda was united in marriage to Hans Petersen in the Lutheran Chapel by Rev. Tim Braun. Hans passed away December 2, 1984. Lynda had worked at the Buena Vista County Hospital and Crawford County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1982.

She is survived by three children, Donald Schoening and wife Germaine of Beaumont, Texas; JoAnn Pulse and her husband Howard of Winterset, Iowa and Alan Schoening and his wife Randi Jo of Huxley; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Three step-children, Don Petersen and his wife Mary of Denison, Iowa; Robert Petersen of Omaha, Nebraska and Audrey Lambert and her husband, Jack of Sioux City, Iowa; eight step-grandchildren and nineteen step- great-grandchildren. Two sisters-in-law, Lila Jensen of Hubbard, Iowa and Melva Schoening of Norfolk, Nebraska; and one brother-in-law, Robert Wyant of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, her husbands and four brothers. Lynda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and Hospital Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting, baking and playing cards.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2000 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Just As I am, Without One Plea", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Honorary pallbearers were: Mervin Arnold, Robert Arnold, Vernon Lueck and Ralph Crisp. Pallbearers were: David Petersen, Rick Petersen, Kenneth Lueck, Rod Petersen, Roger Besien and Phil Gubbels. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Adaline (Schwanz) Lamaak (1912 - 1992)

Mary Adaline Lamaak was born on May 19, 1912, the daughter of Andrew and Johanna Darling Schwanz. She died on Thursday, May 21, 1992 at the Horn memorial Hospital in Ida Grove at the age of 80 years.

Mary was born on a farm north east of Deloit and received her formal education in a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she worked in various homes in the Ida County region.

On November 21, 1939, Mary was united in marriage to Carl Lamaak at the Weatland Presbyterian Church and the couple farmed in Sac and Ida Counties until their retirement in 1975 when they moved to Schleswig. In 1989, Mary and Carl were privileged to have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary together. Mary enjoyed keeping the family together and was very close to them. She loved cooking and was a devoted wife who enjoyed caring for those she loved. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and Schleswig Legion Auxiliary.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father; one sister, Grace; and four brothers Edson, Lester, Clarence and Harry Schwanz.

She is survived by her stepmother, Bess Schwanz of Storm Lake; her husband, Carl of Schleswig; one brother, Paul Schwanz and his wife Marle of Denison; two half-brothers, LeRoy Schwanz and his wife Pearl of Storm Lake and Wilbert Schwanz and his wife Lila of Alta, Iowa; and one sister Dorothy Determann and her husband Donavan of Odebolt. Other survivors include three sisters-in-law, Marie Schwanz of Schleswig, Mildred Schwanz of Denison and Edna Peters of Storm Lake; three brothers-in-law, Harry Lamaak and Fred Werkmeister both of Wall Lake and Ricke Kluver of Odebolt; and one step-sister, Betty Sands of Galva, Iowa.

James Shatz officiating the service and grave site rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Evelyn Johnson provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Dave Anderson singing "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were: John Lamaak, Vernon Lutz, Donald Kragel, Arlo Schwanz, Ed Kluver and Richard Hanlin. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of Walter A. Robert B. Lyon (1910 - 1989)

Robert B. Lyon, the son of Percy and Cora Tobias Lyon, was born in Chicago, Ill., on July 30,1910, and died on April 11, 1989, at his winter home in Fulton, Texas, at the age of 78 years.

He was baptized on April 21, 1911, at Sumner, Ia. When Robert was 12 years of age, they moved to Schleswig. His father then purchased the Schleswig Leader. Bob graduated from Schleswig High School in 1929 and attended one year of college at Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. Bob owned his first newspaper, the Kiron Weekly News, in the 1930's. Bob was associated with his father in the operation of the Schleswig Leader until his father's death in 1945 at which time Bob became the owner and publisher.

Bob married Marie O'Meara on July 30, 1936. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter. Bob purchased the Mapleton Press at Mapleton, in 1959, and the Ute Independent in 1961. In 1975, he retired and spent the winter months in Fulton, Texas.

Mr. Lyon was secretary of the Board of Directors of Schleswig Sausage during the organization and starting of the meat processing plant, a member of the Schleswig Fire Department for 20 years, a Boy Scout troop leader and district and local Scout board member. From the beginning of World War II until 1975, he supplied the Schleswig Leader to all local armed service personnel without charge. He was a member of the Schleswig Business Club, worked to promote the Five-Calf Show, actively supported the community drive for a new swimming pool and served on the Schleswig School Board.

Bob was a member of the Mapleton Community Club, Rotary Club, Board member of Maple Heights Retirement Housing in Mapleton Improvement Corp. He was also an active member in the Community Clubs in Ute and Kiron. Bob was a member of the Kentucky Colonel and KOB'er; member of Sigma Delta Chi, a national journalism fraternity, and member of the Des Moines SDX Chapter, was a member of the Board of Iowa Press Association for 11 years and served as president for one year. He served in all the offices of the Interstate Editorial Association, that being the "Master Editor-Publisher Award" which is only awarded to a very few in the profession.

Bob's hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, cooking and reading. Since his retirement, he has written a weekly column entitled "Editorial Observations".

Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sons: Douglas and his wife, Dee of Schleswig and Edward "Mike" and his wife, Barbara of Mapleton; one daughter, Sandy and her husband, Phil Rickert of Austin, Texas; Six grandchildren: Scott Rickert of Houston, Texas, Stacey Rickert of Dallas, Texas, Valerie Wise of Baltimore, Md., Jana Lyon, Denison, Becky Lyon, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Patty Lyon of Mapleton; and one sister Lila, Mrs. Dale Neely of Castle Rock, Wash.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 17 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Rev. Harold E. Schaible officiated at the services with interment in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Dorothy Jessen was organist for Mrs. Rubie Kastner as soloist. Selections were "Goodby Will Never Come" and "Beyond the Sunset". Honorary pallbearers were Byron J. Behrmann, Ray Schmidt, Dr. M.U. Broers, Leonard Hollander, E.W. Claussen and Walter Petersen. Pallbearers were Jim Bral, Larry Clausen, Ronald Colling, Robert Miller, Thomas Mohrhauser and Edward Robinson. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Viola Ann (Eggert) Miller (1919 - 2005)

Viola Ann Miller was born December 9, 1919, the daughter of William and Emma Vogt Eggert. She died Monday, December 19, 2005 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-six.

Viola was born on a farm near Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ in April of 1920 and confirmed March of 1934 in Schleswig, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home. After she completed her education, Viola began working in various homes, keeping house and caring for children.

On July 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Carl J. Miller in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of four children. After their children were older, she was employed at Olsen's Bakery in Denison for many years, and later worked for Johnson's Drug at the lunch counter.

She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took very good care of her family. She was always there for her husband and her family and was a dedicated worker. In her spare time, Viola enjoyed making hand-crafts, crocheting, embroidery, and quilting with the Christian Craft group at Zion Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed flower gardening and family fishing trips.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Paulette Stewart; three sons-in-law, Michael Stewart, Ron Reynolds and Douglas Henry; two brothers, Raymond as a child and Edward Eggert; one sister Hilda Mahnke; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Mahnke and Alfred Petersen; and one sister-in-law, Elaine Eggert.

Survivors include her husband, Carl of Denison; two daughters, Karen Reynolds of Council Bluffs; Carlene Henry of Fishers, Indiana; one son Ronald Miller and his wife, Sharon of Omaha; two granddaughters, Christine and Kimberly; five grandsons, Rick, Scott, Lonnie, Jasen and Jeff; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Adeline Boettger and her husband, Art; Loretta Petersen; and Jeanie Mork and her husband, Marland, all of Denison; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev.Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist. Larry Boeck singing, "Silent Night, Holy Night", and for congregational hymns, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Those serving as pallbearers were: Scott Reynolds, Donald Eggert, Jerry Boettger, Rick Reynolds, Jeff Miller, Tom Mork and Leah Mitchell. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Walter H. Steckelberg (1918 - 1986)

Walter H. Steckelberg was born on a farm near Irwin, Iowa, September 5, 1918, the son of Max and Anna Lamaack Steckelberg. He was raised on a farm in East Boyer Township in Crawford County and received his formal education through the eighth grade at the East Boyer Center School. He was baptized at an early age and in 1931, was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Following his schooling he was employed in farming.

On June 14, 1938, Walter was married to Esther Andresen and she died a few months later, September 27, 1938. On June 24, 1945, Walter was married to Ella Preul Halterman at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They made their home in Denison for a time and in 1962, moved to a farm west of Denison. In 1970, they moved to the Crawford County home near Arion which they managed until retiring and moving to Denison in 1977.

Ella died December 2, 1983, and Walter continued to reside at his home in Denison. Walter collapsed at his home Wednesday evening, February 26, 1986, and his death was pronounced a short time later at the Crawford County memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 67 years, five months, and 21 days. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Including his two wives, Walter was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Henry, George, Charley, Maxine and Frank Steckelberg, and one sister, Ida Hilbert.

He is survived by four children Delos Halterman and his wife Mary of Denison, Bernice and her husband Donald Koesters of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Connie and her husband Gene Henningsen of Guthrie Center, and Joleen Ricketts of Denison, eleven grand-children, two great grandchildren, one brother, John Steckelberg of rural Denison, and three sisters, Annie Miller of Manilla, Minnie Hollander of Storm Lake, and Florence, Mrs. Walter Lapel of Manning. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Donald D. Fraker officiating. Music for the service was provided by Mr. Henry Henningsen singing, "My God And I" and the congregation singing, "Rock of Ages" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, Shannon Henningsen, Darin Henningsen, Timothy Ricketts, Annthony Ricketts, Richard Koesters, and Delos C. Halterman. Pallbearers included, Alfred Schoenfeld, Donald Hulsebus, Lyle Meyer, Loren Langholz, Robert Steckelberg, and Alvin Bandow. Interment was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Charter Oak. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Lydia Helen (Maack) Eggert (1917 - 2006)

Lydia Helen Eggert was born May 8, 1917, the daughter of August and Wiebke Boyens Maack. She died Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-nine.

Lydia was born in Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on May 28, 1917 and later confirmed on March 29, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She received her education in Hanover Township rural school No. 5, where she graduated on August 21, 1931.

On January 10, 1937, Lydia was united in marriage to Edward Eggert at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Frese. The couple made their home on a farm near Denison and were blessed with the birth of one daughter. Edward passed away in 1967 and Lydia continued to make her home on the farm until moving to Denison in 1968. She went to work for Jo-Mart on weekends and did laundry at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital.

Lydia was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a past member of their Ladies Aid. She was also a member of several card clubs and the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Club. She loved spending time and socializing with her family and friends. She enjoyed babysitting, cooking and baking and in her leisure time she enjoyed embroidering and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Jim Nemitz; two brother, August Maack, Herman Maack; one sister Martha Watke; three step-brothers, Louie Maack, Henry Maack and Hans Thun; three step-sisters, Edna Naab, Hilda Schoenfeld and Anna Hiller.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Nemitz of Denison, two granddaughters, Janine Whited and her husband, Brian of Owatonna, Minnesota; Janelle Johnson and her husband, Joel of Denison; one grandson, Jim Nemitz and his wife, Emalee of Cedar Rapids; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Alan White of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jeremy McMinemee and friend, Jillian Wessel of Denison; Kristin and Alex Whited of Owatonna, Minnesota; Jakob, Joshua and Hannah Nemitz of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Irene Eggert, and Norma Reham, both of Denison; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Dewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "I'm But A Stranger Here", "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound", and "How Great Thou Art". Robert Edwin Boeck (1918 - 2001)

Robert "Bob" Edwin Boeck was born on January 7, 1918, the son of Herman W. and Minnie A. (Blunk) Boeck. He died on August 17, 2001 at age eighty-three on his family century farm where he was born, and raised. He received his education at East Boyer #8 country school and graduated from Denison High School in 1935.

On September 10, 1940, Bob was united in marriage to Virginia Mae Mesenbrink in LeMars, Iowa. The couple settled on the farm and was blessed with the birth of a daughter and four sons.

In addition to farming Bob also pursued a business in refrigeration in the local area. Bob's passion for farming continued up until his death. In his spare time Bob enjoyed hobbies of fishing, hunting, boating and billiards. Bob and his wife, Virginia enjoyed motorcycling especially to Sturgis, South Dakota. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Virginia and four brothers. Those who remain to cherish his memory include his children Donna Taylor of Omaha; David and Charlotte Boeck of Manilla; Charles and Joan Boeck; Ross Boeck; Robert H. Boeck; all of Denison; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Kracht of Denison and three sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2001 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Viola Bertha Marie Schmidt (1913 - 1999)

Viola Bertha Marie Schmidt was born November 24, 1913, the daughter of George L. and Clara Petersen Schmidt. She died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at the age of eighty-five.

Viola was born in Otter Creek Township near Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on January 4, 1914 and later confirmed on April 1, 1928 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa by Rev. William Frehse. She received her education in a rural school near her home.

In 1953, Viola moved with her family to their home in Denison. Viola worked at the JC Penney Store in Denison from 1948, until retiring in 1983.

Viola was a life-long member of the Evening Guild and also a member of the Crawford County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a wonderful sister and aunt who loved the company of her family and friends. She loved to bake, crochet, make craft items and especially loved quilting. She designed a quilt for each of her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Viola also loved to travel in the United States and in her leisure time she enjoyed playing the piano and playing cards with the several card clubs that she belonged to.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Irene and one brother, Raymond. Survivors include one sister, Edna Mae Schmidt of Denison; one brother, Vernie Schmidt and his wife, Helen of Cody, Wyoming; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, nephews and a great-niece; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 3, 1999 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Walter Johannes Paul Walde (1918 - 1982)

Walter Johannes Paul Walde was born on Jan. 28, 1918 at Denison, the son of William and Lillian Ruberg Walde. He died June 6, 1982 at the Bishop Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Neb. at the age of 64.

Walter was baptized as an infant in Denison and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Manilla. He spent his early years on a family farm. Walter received his formal education in the rural schools, completing his schooling in East Boyer Township. For several years later he farmed with his family.

On Aug. 10, 1941, Walter was united in marriage to Leona Boyens at Denison. Together they made their home on a farm near Manilla. In 1962, they retired from the farm and moved to Denison. Walter was employed in Denison until his retirement in 1981.

Walter was preceded in death by his father and one sister. Survivors include, his wife Leona of Denison, his mother, Mrs. Lillian Walde of Denison, one son Roger and his wife Carol of Denison, three daughters, Diane (Mrs. Dennis) Sonnichsen of Deloit, Sandra Baak of Charter Oak and Joleen (Mrs. Gale) Whited of Denison, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Raymond of Denison, Virgil of Denison, Leonard of Vail and Edward of Albuquerque, N.M. and seven sisters, Helen (Mrs. Kenneth) Hinze of Sidney, Neb., Ruby (Mrs. Paul) Jahn of Denison, Lillian (Mrs. Arden) Fastenau of Aurora, Colo., Wilma Walde of Denver, Colo., Gladys (Mrs. Phillip) Hagny of Gettysburg, S.D., Marilyn (Mrs. Max) Yoakum of Des Moines and Marlene (Mrs. Gerry) Brudenell of Tallahassee, Fla.

Funeral services were held June 9 at 2p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Harvey Neumann, Clifford Joens, Lester Genzen, Andy Riesselman, John Lally. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Luella (Kahl) Brus (1917 - 1994)

Luella, daughter of Otto and Hilda Boger Kahl, was born May 16, 1917 in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home. Luella was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On June 14, 1939 Luella was united in marriage with Arnold Brus. Three children were born to this union. They made their home on a farm northwest of Manning in Hayes Township. In the fall of 1992 they moved into Manning.

Luella died during heart surgery at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, January 12, 1994 at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 27 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Darlene Wiese. Survivors include her husband, Arnold, of Manning; her children: Wayne Brus and his wife, Joyce, of Ankeny; Robert Brus and his wife, Judy, of San Antonio, Texas; and Georgia and her husband, Dale Musfeldt, of Ankeny; six grandchildren: Matthew, Andrew, and Ryan Brus and Michael, Jennifer, and Sara Musfeldt; a sister, Helen and her husband, Roy Fischer, of Brainerd, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Luella was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed sewing and hand work, as well as playing cards with her friends.

Services were held on Sunday, January 16, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa with the Pastor Robert Riggert officiating. Music was provided by the congregation and by Paul Weiss, organist. Songs included: "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "Behold a Host Arrayed in White", "Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me". Interment was in the Manning City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arlan Jans, Dean Hargens, Richard Brus, James Meyer, Russell Ranniger and Richard Fischer. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of the arrangements.

Martin J. Wodtke (1913 - 1991)

Martin J. Wodtke, 78, died Friday, March 22, 1991, at a Mapleton nursing home. Mr. Wodtke was born Jan. 20, 1913, in Soldier Township near Charter Oak, son of Frederick and Matilda (Fester) Wodtke. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was a member there until moving to Mapleton.

He married Lillian Paulsen March 6, 1938, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. They farmed until 1954, then moved to their present farm east of Mapleton. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Laymen's League. He was a past president of the Farmer's Co-op at Mapleton and of the Maple Crest Retirement Home board.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Myron and Jane of Estherville; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Colbert of Danbury; a brother, Leonhard Wodtke of Anthon; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Kroll and Helma Engelke, both of Mapleton; and five grandchildren: Tim and Mike Wodtke, Nate, Alyssa and Jason Colbert of Danbury. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Frederick; and a brother, Marcus.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 25 at 10:30 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Pastor Charles Adams officiating. Norma Jean Dose was organist for congregational singing, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers included Verdell Wodtke, Dale Engelke, Mike Cruse, Leo Dose, Leo Dean and John Wooster. Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter-Armstrong Funeral Service.

Regina Margaret (Owens) Lally (1918 - 2005)

Regina Margaret (Owens) Lally was born on the family farm in Denison Township, Crawford County, Iowa, February 16, 1918, the daughter of Eugene McDermott and Margaret Elizabeth Murphy Owens. She was raised on the farm and was graduated from the Denison High School, having received the Normal Training to obtain her teaching certificate.

On June 27, 1942, Regina was united in marriage with John Patrick Lally, Jr. at Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with eight children, Mary Margaret, Patrick III, Dennis, Joe, Eileen, Michael, Jerry and Jane. The Lally's made their home in Lake City, Iowa for one year before moving to a farm near Manilla, Iowa in 1943. In 1956, the Lally's moved to a farm near Denison before moving to their present farm home west of Denison in 1958, where she had since resided.

Regina began her teaching career in 1936, teaching K-8 in the Crawford County Rural Schools for fourteen years. From 1958 until 1969 she taught at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Schools in Denison and, in 1970, she began teaching in the Schleswig Community Schools from which she retired in June of 1994. Her teaching career spanned 49 years in the classroom having taught over 1,000 students. Throughout her years of teaching she also pursued her own education taking classes at Drake University, Iowa State University and University of Northern Iowa before being graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Midwestern College in Denison in 1970.

A believer of being involved in her profession and community, Regina was a member of the Denison Branch of A.A.U.W., currently serving as their president, A.A.U.W. "Woman of the Year" nominee and finalist in 2003, and was awarded Crawford County Teacher of the Year in 1990. She also served as a 4-H Leader for ten years and was a charter member, and current historian, of the Denison High School Alumni Association.

Regina was a life-long and active member of St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Denison where she served as Eucharistic Minister, CCD Teacher, Pre-Cana Teacher and was a member of St. Rose Ladies Guild. Although teaching full-time, Regina's family always came first. She loved cooking, baking, and canning for her large family, relatives and friends and no one was a stranger at her table. In her spare time, she loved horseback riding, traveling with John to 49 states in their "beloved RV" and dancing to Big Band and Old-Time Polka Music.

Surrounded by her loving family, Regina died Monday morning, October 17, 2005, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 87 years, 8 months and 1 day.

In death, Regina rejoins her parents, Eugene and Margaret Owens; three grandsons, Michael Francis II, Francis Paul and John Joseph Lally, daughter-in-law, Linda Lally, three brothers, infant twins and James E. Owens; two sisters, Rita E. Halbur and Mary Claire O'Connell; five brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband of over 63 years, John Patrick Lally, Jr., of Denison, Iowa; eight children and their spouses, Mary Margaret and Charles Daniel, Charter Oak, Iowa; Patrick III and Jane Lally; Dennis E. Lally; Joe and Carol Lally and Eileen T. and Joel Sailer, all of Denison; Michael and Paula Lally, Lawton Iowa; Jerry and Patty Lally, Denison; and Jane E. and Warren R. Brown, Granger, Iowa; 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane and husband, Ace Schrunk of Missouri Valley, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louise Owens, Carroll, Iowa; Joe and Rita Lally and Bob and Helen Dieter, Vail, Iowa; Genevieve Pribyl, Valley, Nebraska; Jim and Theresa Haney, Rochert, Minnesota; and Martin and Mary Lally, Denison; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Legion of Mary Rosary, led by Richard and Rose Marie Penn, was prayed at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Denison at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2005, with a Parish Vigil Service, led by Father Andrew Hoffman, held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the church. Special music for the vigil service included recordings of "Beyond The Sunset" and "Whispering Hope". Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2005, at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Denison with Father Andrew Hoffmann as Celebrant and Father Lloyd W. White and Father Donald J. Slaven con-celebrating. Others participating in the mass included Christian Symbol Placers, Regina's children; Servers, Brooke Herbst, Zachary Franke and Emma Lally; Lectors, Meghan (Lally) Wellsandt, Corrine (Lally) Jenkins and Melani (Sailer) Hoyt; Gift Bearers were Regina's Godchildren, Mary Helen Jones, Gerilyn Metschke, Ann Marong, Martina Rogers and Patricia Franke; Eucharistic Ministers, Paula Lally, Carol Lally, Micha Herbst, Dr. Nancy Dowdle and Denise Lally Goss. Music for the mass included Dr. RoseMary Mason as Violinist, accompanied by Jean Cornelius, playing "Ave Maria" by Gounod and Panis Angelicus; Maura Sharp as soloist, accompanied by Cory Claussen, singing "Ave Maria" by Schubert, "Our Father", and was joined by the St. Rose Of Lima Adult Choir in the singing of "Irish Lullaby". Honorary Pallbearers were Regina's Teacher Colleagues. Pallbearers were Regina's nine grandsons, Charles Daniel, Jr., Chris Daniel, Greg Lally, J.J. Lally, Jay Patrick Lally, Nathan Lally, W. Michael Brown, Ryan Lally and Rob Lally. Interment was at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison, Iowa. Following the interment prayers, the family invited everyone to return to the Parish Center and join them for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Rose Of Lima Ladies Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements and services.

Vernie Schmidt (1916 - 2001)

Vernie Schmidt was born on the family farm near Schleswig, Iowa on May 16, 1916, the son of George and Clara (Petersen) Schmidt. He died at the West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody, Wyoming at the age of 85 years.

He was baptized in Christ on June 16, 1916 and later confirmed by Pastor Frese at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. After receiving his early education in a rural school near his home, Vernie helped his father on the farm. In his early 20's he attended Krye Aircraft School in Omaha, Nebraska.

Vernie was employed by the Boeing aircraft factory in Wichita, Kansas for several years until he was drafted into the Army Air Corp during World War II; stationed at Air Force Bases in Rapid City, South Dakota and Kerns, Utah and served overseas in the 8th Air Force in England and Ireland; repairing the B17 Bombers. After receiving his honorable discharge on February 1946, he took over his father's farm.

He was united in marriage to Helen Klinker on November 21, 1948 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa; they remained on the family farm until 1985 when they moved to Cody, Wyoming. He was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, the VFW in Cody serving on the Honor Guard and also the American Legion Honor Guard in Denison, Iowa.

Vernie was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Ray and two sisters Viola and Irene Schmidt, two brothers-in-law Alvern Klinker and Robert Reitz. Survivors include his wife Helen; three sons, Roger, Terry and his wife Maria, Thomas and his wife Sheila, two daughters, Sandra and her husband Robert Barnes, Kaylene and her husband Marc Neddermeyer, 14 grandchildren and 2 step grandsons; 2 great granddaughters and 1 step great granddaughter, one sister Edna Mae Schmidt of Eventide, Denison, Iowa, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Klinker, Elaine Reitz, Lois Ernst and husband Merle Ernst, Norman Klinker and wife Janice, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. at Christ King Lutheran Church. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery with V.F.W. Honor Guard presenting military honors. Those serving as pallbearers were Jerry Ernst, David Klinker, Mike Reinker, Chad Schmidt, Matthew Neddermeyer, and Randy Oberheu.

Walter Carl Gosch (1918 - 1999)

Walter Carl Gosch, the son of Henry C. and Catherine Behrendsen Gosch, was born October 8, 1918 on the family farm near Ute, Iowa, and died January 21, 1999 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of eighty years.

Walter was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa and later confirmed March 25, 1934 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. E. Widmann. He attended country school in Crawford County receiving his eighth grade graduation in 1933.

Walter and LaDonna Dorothy Lafrentz were united in marriage April 4, 1943 at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig by Rev. A.L. Rinne, and together their union was blessed with one son, Leon. After their marriage, they farmed in the Ute area, moving to a farm north of Schleswig in 1944, where they continued to farm until retiring to Schleswig in 1979. In 1983 Walter and LaDonna celebrated their fortieth anniversary together with family and friends at the Schleswig Community Building in Schleswig.

Walter devoted his life to farming and raising cattle. He and his son, Leon, participated in the Schleswig Calf Show for many years. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, and the Schleswig Community Club. He was a devoted husband to LaDonna, a caring and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Walter believed that education was highly important not only for his grandkids but for the State of Iowa. Holidays with his kids were the memorable highlights of his years of life. Walter lived his life to its fullest.

Preceding Walter in death were his wife LaDonna, his parents, two sisters, and five brothers. Survivors include his wife Sheryl of Schleswig; four grandchildren: Lynn Amend and husband Jim of Naperville, Illinois; Rodney Gosch and wife Joelle of Golden Valley, Minnesota; Sara Gosch of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Leta Gosch of Iowa City, Iowa. Two great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Derek Amend of Naperville, Illinois. Also surviving is one brother Glenn Gosch and his wife Luella of Harlan, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM., Monday, January 25, 1999 at the United Church of Christ, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing "Morning Has Broken" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and congregational hymn "Crown Him with Many Crowns". Honorary pallbearers were: Nicky Nicoletto, Linda Segebart, Corrine Reitz, Merle Ernst, Orlan Abbe and Tonia Goff. Pallbearers were: Leon Neubauer, Edward Edson, Burdell Jensen, Donald Korner, Jerry Ernst and Larry Abbe. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Luella (Wiese) Malone (1915 - 1999)

Luella Malone was born January 9, 1915, the oldest of five children of Gustave and Wilhelmina Stahl Wiese. She died at her home in Bastrop, Texas, Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at the age of eighty-four.

Luella was born in Manilla, Iowa and was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran faith and in 1928 she was confirmed after completing the eighth grade. Upon graduating from Denison High School in 1933, she began teaching in Paradise Township.

In 1936, Luella was united in marriage to R.E. Malone and at this time became a member of the Methodist Church. The couple settled in Denison and were blessed with the birth of three daughters, Betty, Janet and Connie.

Luella took time off from teaching for a few years to spend time with the girls while they were young. Before Luella returned to teaching, she had various other occupations. When she did go back, she taught in rural Crawford County schools, and the cities of Deloit and Vail, teaching for nearly forty years.

In 1959, Luella, Janet and Connie moved to California, where Luella taught school and made her home until moving to Texas in 1995. She enjoyed gardening and reading and in her leisure time, she enjoyed attending auctions, collecting antiques and other collectibles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Helen and one daughter, Janet Case.

Merrill Albert Meseck (1917 - 1998)

Merrill Albert Meseck was born January 21, 1917, the son of Theodore and Ella Hopp Meseck. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa on Sunday, August 2, 1998 at the age of eighty-one. Merrill was born near Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on February 18, 1917 at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak and later confirmed on January 28, 1934. Merrill lived with his parents in Charter Oak Township and received his education in a rural school near his home.

On February 22, 1942, Merrill was united in marriage to Esther Reincke at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. The couple made their home on various farms in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of ten children. Merrill owned and operated a trucking business, a sanitation route and was employed by the Charter Oak-Ute Community School as a school bus driver for five years.

Merrill was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. He was a loving husband and caring father and grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved gardening, flowers, especially roses and in his leisure time he enjoyed socializing in cards and marble games.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Michael Anderson, Devin Meseck; one great-granddaughter, Angelena Meseck; two brothers, Henry Meseck, Delaine Meseck; two sisters, Lila Topf and Lucille Kelm.

Survivors include his wife, Esther of Charter Oak; six daughters, Janice Brown and her husband, C.B. of Bethany, Louisiana; Gloria Anderson of Prescott, Arizona; Jerene Neir and her husband, Ronald of Storm Lake; Patricia Lingren and her husband, Dennis of Denison; Marjorie Iversen of Aetna, California; Donna Schamp of Mesa, Arizona; four sons, Larry Meseck and his wife, Glenda of Charter Oak; Dale Meseck of Onawa; Lyle Meseck and his wife, Maureen of Denison; Dean Meseck and his wife, Sandy of Holstein; twenty-four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Meyer, Ellen Jepsen, both of Denison; Delores Bumann and her husband, LeRoy of Schleswig; one brother, Edgar Meseck and his wife, Elvera of Schleswig, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 1998, at the St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt and Vicar Kent Pierce officiated the service and graveside rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Colleen Wessel singing, "Amazing Grace, How Sweet The Sound" and "How Great Thou Art" and congregational hymn, "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Milda E. (Schillerberg) Backhaus (1910 - 1994)

Milda E. Backhaus was born December 8, 1910, the daughter of Herman and Augusta Tech Schillerberg. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, on Wednesday, August 3, 1994 at the age of eighty-three.

Milda was born on a farm in Hanover Township where she lived with her parents. She was baptized a Christian on January 15, 1911 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township and later confirmed there on April 13, 1924, by Rev. Runge. As a young girl, Milda received her education at St. Paul's Lutheran School.

On February 7, 1932, Milda was united in marriage to Harry Backhaus at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The couple settled on a farm in Ida County, until 1942 when they purchased a farm south of Westside. They continued to farm until 1979 when they retired and moved to Denison.

Milda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a former member of Zion Ladies Aid in Manning. She was a loving wife and a caring mother and grandmother, who enjoyed cooking, canning, tending to her garden and flowering plants, which she took great pride in.

She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; one grandson, Todd Yockey; one brother, Clarence Schillerberg; and one sister, Alice Aldag.

Survivors include her husband, Harry of Denison; one daughter, Virginia Donnelson and her husband, Lyle of Glenwood; one son, Dennis Backhaus and his wife, Margaret of Westside; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also two brothers, Harold Schillerberg and his wife, Darlyne of Denison and Merle Schillerberg of Charter Oak; one brother-in-law, Louis Aldag of Schleswig; two sisters-in-law, Ella Hamann of Schleswig and Bernice Bruhn and her husband, Irwin of Denison.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 5, 1994 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with Rev. Kurt Kaiser officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Manning City Cemetery in Manning. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and congregational hymns "Beautiful Savior" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Pallbearers were: Rodney Backhaus, William Backhaus, Dale Schillerberg, David Backhaus, Jerry Backhaus and Scott Anderson. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them for lunch at the church, served by Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Rose Marie (Jepsen) Clausen (1913 - 2004)

Rose Marie Jepsen Clausen was born in Goodrich Township in Crawford County on May 10, 1913, the daughter of Jurgen and Anna Johannsen Jepsen. She died Friday, April 23, 2004 at the Eventide home in Denison, Iowa at the age of 90 years. She was baptized June 28, 1913 at Zion Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa by Pastor E.R. Schwidder.

She attended school in Goodrich Township, and then moved with parents to Moville, Iowa, when 12 years old. She attended consolidated school in Climbing Hill, Iowa until 10th grade. She then moved back to the Denison area.

On March 28, 1934 Rose was united in marriage to Harvey Clausen at Sioux City, Iowa. They were blessed with the birth of two daughters, Shirlee Ann and Marlene Rose. In 1940 Harvey and Rose purchased a farm northwest of Vail, Iowa. They lived there until they sold the farm and retired in 1975, and moved to Deloit, Iowa.

Harvey passed away on December 14, 1996. Rose continued to reside at their home in Deloit. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa since 1940. Rose was a member of the Ladies Aid. She loved to do sewing, making quilts and pot holders. Rose entered Eventide in January of 2004.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Minnie Madsen, brothers Jack, Albert and Hugo Jepsen, and one grandson Brian Ruback.

She is survived by daughters Shirlee and husband Rudy Hinojor of Paton, Iowa; Marlene Clausen of Telbico Plains, Tennessee; grandchildren Rick and wife Sue Ruback of Cleburne, Texas; Curt Ruback of San Diego, California; Jennifer and husband Freddie Marble; and three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

After her cremation, private grave side services were held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison on April 28, 2004 at 2:00 p.m.

Wilbur A. Andresen (1917 - 1994)

Wilbur A. "Flip" Andresen, 77 of Columbia and formerly of Sturgeon, died Friday, Dec. 30, 1994, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. Services were 2 p.m. Jan. 2, at Meador and Son Funeral Home in Sturgeon with the Rev. Ralph Sawyer officiating. Burial was in Mount Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon.

Mr. Andresen was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Denison, Iowa, to George and Johanna Rogge Andresen. He married Aleda Ruth Johnson on Dec. 19, 1945, and she survives.

He served in the Army Infantry in the South Pacific Theater. In 1969, he retired from Kaiser Refractories in Mexico, Mo., after working there 18 years.

Mr. Andresen moved with his wife to sturgeon in 1954. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 8 in Denison, Iowa, and of American Legion Post No. 533 in Sturgeon, where he served as post commander in 1960 and 1963. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Denison.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Henson of Columbia, Kathy Basnett of Centralia and Debbie Strodtman of Hallsville; a brother, Walter Andresen of Pisgah, Iowa; two sisters, Irene Littleton and Hilda Kessel, both of Denison, Iowa; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Steckelberg, Marie Adams and Edna Holst; and a brother, Bill Andresen.

Burdell Friedrichsen (1930 - 1997)

Burdell Friedrichsen was born March 9, 1930, the son of Benhardt and Rosa Boysen Friedrichsen. He died at his home in Denison, Iowa on July 30, 1997 at the age of sixty-seven.

Burdell was born in Ida County, Iowa, and received his education in rural schools near his home, until 1942 when moving to Denison with his parents and completing his education in the Denison Community School. He was baptized in Christ and later confirmed on December 25, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison.

After receiving his education he helped various farmers and was employed by Ralph Martin and Western Auto, until entering the United States Marines in September of 1951. After being wounded in the service, he was discharged in 1953 and returned to the Denison area, and his employment with Ralph Martin.

On August 4, 1954, Burdell was united in marriage to Dorothy Segebart at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. The couple made their home in Denison and were blessed with the birth of seven children. Burdell was employed by the Hinze Tree Service, Farmland for five years, IBP for seventeen years, retiring in 1990. Subsequently, Burdell worked odd jobs and for Mary Ellen Lyman for the past five years, until failing health forced his retirement.

Burdell was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison and a DAV Member. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arlo in 1952. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Denison; two daughters, Betty Jo Jacoby and her husband, Robert of Denison; Barbara Meseck and her husband, Byron of Ricketts; five sons, Burton Friedrichsen and his wife, Nancy of Cherokee; Burnus Friedrichsen; Byron and his wife, Darla; Bruce Friedrichsen and his wife, Rebeca all of Denison; Bradley and his wife, Becky of Albert City, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willard Friedrichsen and his wife, Ruby of Denison and Gene Friedrichsen of Onawa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 2, 1997 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden" and Larry Boeck singing "Amazing Grace". Congregational hymn "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Honorary pallbearers were: Henry Ewoldt, Jim Meseck, Dale Reis and Pat Kelly. Pallbearers were: Dwight Boeck, Ben Segebart, Kevin Meseck, Todd Slechta, Mark Slechta and Alvin Naeve. Military Honors were provided by the V.F.W. Post #2504, Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. Everett John Evers (1930 - 2002)

Everett John Evers was born September 10, 1930, the son of John H. and Malinda M. Mohr Evers. He died April 25, 2002, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of seventy-one.

Everett was born in Sioux City, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig and received his elementary education in Schleswig, graduating from Schleswig High School with the class of 1949. After graduation, he served in the United States Army.

On March 23, 1958, Everett was united in marriage to May Lou Grill at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. The couple made their home in Schleswig and was blessed with the birth of two children.

He worked as a mechanic at Schleswig Motor before and after his service in the Army. In January of 1956, Everett began working for Schleswig Oil Company, purchasing one-half of the business in 1965. In 1974, the business was incorporated and renamed Tri-County Oil & Gas.

In 1982, he sold his shares of the business and retired. In the spring of 1983, he began working as a mechanic for Lloyd Olson in Ute, Iowa until the spring of 1985. He helped part-time at Modern Appliance in Schleswig and in 1988, bought Schleswig Sanitation, which he ran until the spring of 1993, when sold the business and retired.

Everett was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. Among his hobbies were working on and restoring old cars, pickups, and tractors; going to auctions and attending swap meets in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, the Schleswig Community Club, the Businessman's Club, and the Schleswig Development Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother, John, and one nephew, Richard Evers. Survivors include his loving wife, May Lou; one son, Mark and his wife, Valita of Storm Lake, Iowa; one daughter, Jaye Claussen and her husband Edward of Guymon, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Eric, Kyle, and Kayla Evers of Storm Lake, Iowa; Lindy, Megan, and Austin Claussen of Guymon, Oklahoma, and David Claussen of Ida Grove, Iowa; one brother, Gene and his wife, Sally of Spring, Texas; one aunt, Hilda Brodersen of Denison; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2002 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Iowa. Rev. Juanita Gillies officiated the service and Wendy Bumann served as organist for Keith Christie and Kevin Christie singing "How Great Thou Art" and congregatinal hymns "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Gerald Vogt (1932 - 1996)

Gerald Vogt was born September 4,1932, the son of John and Minnie Namanny Vogt. He died at his home near Dow City, Iowa on Saturday, October 5, 1996 at the age of sixty-four. Gerald was born on a farm west of Denison, Iowa, where he received his education in a rural school near his home.

On September 4, 1954, Gerald was united in marriage to Marcelene Malone at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and made their home in Denison. In 1960, the couple moved to Dow City and Gerald began his employment at IBP Inc.

Gerald was a very loving husband, caring father and grandfather who enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and playing uker with his family and friends. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, the City Council of Dow City and an active member of the Dow City Fire Department for thirty-one years.

Gerald was preceded in deah by his father, one brother, Leonard in infancy and one sister, Unabell.

Survivors include his wife, Marcelene of Dow City, one son, Rick Vogt and his wife, Jeri of Dow City, three daughters, Becky Dorale and her husband, Ralph of Charter Oak; Debbie Sly and her husband, Randy of Grimes; Carla Long and her husband, Terry of Manilla; his mother, Minnie Vogt of Denison; two brothers, DuWayne Vogt and his wife, Helen of Galva; Don Vogt and Sarah of Omaha; two sisters, Yvonne Brown and her husband, Tom of Omaha; Colleen Ashfield and her husband, Ron of Portland, Oregon; and eight grandchildren, Beth and Megan Vogt, Adam and Alex Dorale, Matt and Mike Sly, Jason Vogt and Dalton Long.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 1996 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Larry Lemke officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. EveVonne Muff provided the service music of "The Church's One Foundation", and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Congregational singing was "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Ace Ettleman, Vic Thomson, Adam Dorale, Alex Dorale, Randy Vogt, Walt Truitt, Gene Harre and Arlo North. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Dow City Community Building, served by the Ladies Aid. Gilbert Louis Bandow (1930 - 1999)

Gilbert Louis Bandow was born on March 4, 1930 on a farm in East Boyer Township, the son of Louis and Adele Jaeger Bandow. He died on Tuesday October 26, 1999 at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 69.

Gil was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He attended Country School and the Manilla High School. In December of 1950 Gilbert entered the United States Air Force where he served his country for four years.

He was united in marriage to Corrine Aldag on April 17, 1951 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children; Rhonda, Jeff and Kerry. The couple settled in Spokane, Washington were Gil was stationed, as a crane operator until he was sent to French Morocco, where he was stationed for thirteen months. During this period Gil was a member of the Special Weapons Strategic Air Command, specializing in atomic weapons, during the Korean Conflict. The last nine months of his Air Force career were spent at Fairchild Air Force Base.

In March of 1955, the couple moved back to Gil's family farm in East Boyer, where Gil was born and raised. Gil and Co trine remained on their farm until 1995, when they moved to Manilla. Gil was a dedicated farmer. Recently, he told his grandchildren about how much he loved farming; especially when spring came and he would work the fields and enjoy the smell of the soil. Gil was partial to International farm machinery and his Ford pickup.

He enjoyed bowling and was very involved with the Manilla Saddle Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his faithful companion, Skeeter, his cocker spaniel dog. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, the Manning VFW, and the American Legion Post of Manilla. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, as family was very important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elsie Bandow in infancy; and Ella Bandow; and one brother, August Bandow.

He is survived by his wife, Corrine; one daughter, Rhonda Bandow Javor and her husband Paul of Amherst, Ohio; two sons, Jeff Bandow of Indianola, Iowa; and Kerry Bandow of Manilla; four grandchildren, Jon and Megan Javor; and Nathan and Jill Bandow; one brother, Edward Bandow of Denison; and one sister, Arlene Jahn of Manilla; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 29, 1999 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla, Iowa. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Larry Boeck who sang "Rock of Ages", and "Amazing Grace", and for congregational hymn "A Mighty Fortress is our God". Those serving as honoray pallbearers were: the Manilla Saddle Club, Mike's Bowling Team, Megan Javor and Jill Bandow. Those serving as pallbearers were: Rob Rauterkus, Nathan Bandow, Nyle Gruhn, Gary A. Hall, Jon Javor and Darin Ferry. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla served by the Priscilla Guild. Glenn Henry Petersen (1935 - 2004)

Glenn Henry Petersen, born October 15, 1935 in Hanover Township, the son of Rudolph and Lorena (Fredericks) Petersen. He was baptized November 15, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. He was confirmed May 29, 1949 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. Iowa. Glenn attended country grade school in Paradise Township and graduated from Dow City High School, class of 1954.

On May 20. 1956 Glenn was united in marriage with Norma Jean Kahl at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa. In 1958 Glenn was drafted into the army and was given an honorable discharge in 1960. Glenn and Norma were blessed with two adopted children, Delaine Glenn Petersen in 1963 and Carolyn Jean (Petersen) Berry in 1965.

Glenn worked for People's Natural Gas for twenty-seven years. During his lifetime Glenn was a Cub Scout Leader and a Voting member at Zion Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Bell Tower and also enjoyed playing darts with the Church Dart Club. Glenn enjoyed nature and camping with family and friends for many years. He also enjoyed hunting with his son, Delaine, and fishing with his family. Glenn really enjoyed his grandchildren.

Preceding Glenn in death were his father; one sister, Gloria Feddersen; four brother-in-laws, Herman Kahl Jr., Boyd Hulsebus, Robert Ahart and Earl Kahl.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife Norma of Denison; son, Delaine Petersen of Denison; Carolyn Berry and husband. Jake of Grand Junction; five grandchildren, Colby, Zeth, Autumn, Mason and Jacob; his mother, Lorena Petersen; his sister, Eunice Hollander and her husband. Duane of Buck Grove: brother-in-law, John Feddersen of Denison; five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hulsebus of Denison; Doris Kahl of Dow City: Donna Ahart of Denison: Dorathy Kahl of Nora Springs: Irene Schulz and her husband, Arlyn of New Ulm, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2004 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Vicar Michael StOerger officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Eldon Hardekopf singing, "On Eagle's Wings" and congregational hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art". Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Eventide Lutheran Home. Pallbearers were: John Feddersen, Richard Hulsebus, Bryan Hollander, Richard Meyer, Larry Garrett and Donald Kahl. Military Honors were provided by the Denison American Legion Post 8. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Dorcas Society. Gloria Ann (Petersen) Feddersen (1938 - 1999)

Gloria Ann Feddersen was born in rural Dow City, Iowa on September 20, 1938, the daughter of Rudolph and Lorena Fredericks Petersen. She died at her home, under the care of hospice, September 11, 1999 at the age of 60.

She received her education at Paradise Township School and graduated from the Dow City High School with the class of 1956.

In June of 1956, she was united in marriage to Eugene Goeser. The couple was blessed with the birth of one son, Michael. After Eugene's death in 1958, Gloria was united in marriage to John Feddersen on May 28, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. To this union, the couple was blessed with the birth of four children; Cynthia, Connie, Coleen and John.

Gloria and John began farming in 1961 on a farm near Buck Grove. In 1967, they bought Gloria's family farm and lived there until 1992 when they moved to Denison to take care of her father-in-law. In 1994, Gloria and John purchased their present home on East Circle Road.

She was a loving, compassionate, kind, caring and helpful wife, mother and grandmother. She was always there when someone needed her. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, remodeling homes, fishing, reading, singing in the church choir, going to auctions and fishing trips to Canada. Gloria was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City and the Paradise Coffee Club.

She is preceded in death by her father, Rudolph Petersen and her first husband, Eugene Goeser.

Survivors include her husband John; two sons, Michael Feddersen and his wife, Melissa of Denison and John M. Feddersen of Denison; three daughters, Cynthia Krick of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; Connie Andersen and her husband, John of Harlan, Iowa and Coleen Ferguson of Denison; her mother, Lorena Petersen of Denison; one brother, Glenn Petersen and his wife Norma, of Denison; one sister, Eunice Hollander and her husband, Duane of Denison; five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, September 14, 1999 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. Rev. Larry Lemke officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Sherry Ketelsen provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Gloria Joan (Jahde) Lingren (1936 - 2000)

Gloria Joan Lingren was born September 17, 1936, the daughter of Clarence and Hilda Kropf Jahde. She died at the Burlington Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa on Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at the age of sixty-three.

Gloria was born in Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on November 22,1936 at St. John Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township and later confirmed on July 1, 1951 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa by Rev. Wiese. She received her education in rural schools near Vail, Boyer, east of Schleswig and the Schleswig Community School graduating with the class of 1955.

After completing her education, Gloria worked in Montgomery Ward Incorporated in Denison, then moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked for a short period of time. In 1958, she returned to Schleswig until moving with her family to St. Ansgar, Iowa.

On August 16,1959, Gloria was united in marriage to Merlyn E. Lingren at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Carl Schmidt. Gloria worked as the School Board Secretary and Business Manager of the Schleswig Community School in Schleswig, Iowa for thirty one years. Gloria was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa.

She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who's pride and joy was her grandson, Andrew and her work at the Schleswig School. In her leisure time, Gloria enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, researching genealogy and using the computer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Kristi in infancy. Survivors include one daughter, Tanya Langholdt of Mediapolis, Iowa; one son, Jeff Lingren of Las Vegas, Nevada; one grandson, Andrew Langholdt of Mediapolis; one brother, Ken Jahde of Elmhurst, Illinois; one sister, Peggy Koch and her husband, Delwin of Ames; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2000 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Nancy Bielen-berg provided the organ accompaniment and Sherwin Langholdt provided the Baritone accompaniment for congregational hymns "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Those serving as pallbearers were: Jack Johnson, Duane Goode, Joel Sailer, John Cassens, Delwin Koch and Dan Koch. Gordon George Moeller (1932 - 2006)

Gordon George Moeller was born April 23, 1932 the son of George H. and Mina Margaret Marie Grell Moeller. He died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at his home in Lake View, Iowa at the age of seventy-three.

Gordon was born in Ricketts, Iowa and was baptized in Christ at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

He received his education in the Ricketts Community School and graduated from the Charter Oak High School with the class of 1949. While attending school, Gordon started his truck driving career at the age of twelve, as well as working on the Dam in Pierre, South Dakota. After completing his education he entered the United States Marines. He served in Korea, where he received recommendation to 2nd lieutenant and later was promoted to 1st lieutenant. He received his honorable discharge in 1955, having received accommodation of the Silver Star and numerous awards.

On October 17, 1953, Gordon was united in marriage to Ruth Neddermeyer at a Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Quantico, Virginia, then moved to California, where Gordon was stationed in El Toro. In 1955 after receiving his discharge the couple moved to Ricketts, where Gordon returned to truck driving and car sales.

Gordon was a very generous person who always gave to charities, as well as lending a hand to those in need. He and his family spent twenty-five years living in southern California before returning to Iowa to start his own truck sales business, Heartland Truck Exchange.

He enjoyed playing cards, barbecuing and socializing with family and friends. He also loved to golf and was famous for his golf tournament in Lake View. He was a member of the Elks Club, Shriners, Masons, American Legion, V.F.W. and Exchange Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers-in-law, Gus Goslar and his wife, Marlene and Roger Lansman and one nephew, Jeff Moeller.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Lake View; two sons, Steven Moeller and his wife, Denise of Lake View; Michael Moeller of Anaheim, California; one daughter, Keri Moeller of Spokane, Washington; two grandsons, Steven Moeller Jr. and Cody Moeller of Lake View; three brothrs, Charles Moeller and his wife, Cha of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rick Moeller and his wife, Pat of Beaumont, California, Robert (Buzz) Moeller and his wife, Doris of Fallon, Nevada; two sisters, Georgene Downs and her husband, Stanley of Cherry Valley, California; Jolene Stone of Huntington Beach, California; two brothers-in-law, Ervin Neddermeyer and his wife, Carol of Schleswig; John (Butch) Neddermeyer and his wife, Joan of Ute; one sister-in-law, Mildred Lansman of Omaha; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Rev. Trish Underberg officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Organist Arlene Sundell provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Jennifer Goslar singing, "How Great Thou Art", "Wind Beneath My Wings", "I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry" and "My Way". Honorary pallbearers were: Charlie O'Hallearn, Leonard Seieroe, Buddy Leisinger, Denny Franzen, Glenn Ullerich, Ed S.chreiber, Jack Pardee, Gary Larson, Cal Bliss, Ed Meador and Marvin Leach. Pallbearers were: Todd Neddermeyer, Greg Goodnow, Randy Goslar, Tom Lansman, Jack Meyer and Pete Reitz. Military Honors were Ute V.F.W. Post 5605 and American Legion Homer Hall Post 66. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Ute Community Building, catered by Staley's Catering Service. Mary Eileen (Molony) Johnson (1915 - 2005)

Mary Eileen Johnson was born at Denison, Iowa, October 7, 1915, the daughter of Michael and Selma Otto Molony. She was raised in Denison where she was graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1933. Following high school she began her waitress career at age 18 at Cronks in Denison.

Eileen was united in marriage with Roy E. Johnson at Chicago, Illinois and their union was blessed with two sons, Michael and Steve. They made their home in Chicago before moving to Pittsfield, Illinois where they farmed and owned and operated restaurants.

Roy died November 2, 1969 and Eileen remained in Pittsfield where she was employed as a waitress. In 1980 Eileen returned to Denison, Iowa and resumed her waitress career at Cronks, from which she retired at age 80 in 1995. In addition to spending her spare time with her family Eileen was an avid card player and enjoyed games of chance. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa.

Eileen died Monday, August 1, 2005 at Creighton University medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 89 years, 9 months and 21 days. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Selma Molony; her husband, Roy; one brother, Joe Molony and three sisters, Ruth Molony, Inez Richey and Nellie Pieper.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her two sons and their wives, Michael and Sharon Johnson of Sycamore, Illinois and Steve and Lydia Johnson of Byron, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; two sisters, Grace Hass of Denison and Kathleen Petersen of Schleswig, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Etta Molony of Denison and Gussie Molony of Harlan, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:001 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2005 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison, Iowa, with Father Edward Murray as Celebrant. Others participating in the Mass included Lector, Lydia Johnson; Gift Bearers, Michael and Steve Johnson; Servers, Dean and Martha Watkins and Melanie Malkey; and Eucharistic Minister, Dan Pfannebecker. Music for the Mass was provided by St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing "Be Not Afraid", "Gift of Finest Wheat", "Let There Be Peace On Earth" and "How Great Thou Art" with Judy Thams serving as organist. Pallbearers were Eileen's grandchildren, Lorie Stark, Gilbert Johnson, Michael Johnson, Heidi Isham, Bradley Johnson, Daniel Johnson and Andrea Johnson. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Following the services the family invited everyone in attendance to join them at the Parish Center for a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
