Anna Meggers (1912 - 1975)

Miss Anna Meggers, 62, of Denison, died Thursday, February 13, 1975, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison of a long illness.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, in the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The Rev. Robert Maschke officiated. Burial was in the Morgan Township Cemetery near Schleswig.

Miss Meggers was born November 1, 1912, in Hanover Township. In 1934, she moved to Denison. From 1951 to 1969, she was a deputy clerk in the district court. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Wa Tan Ya.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Henry (Lillian) Listermann and two brothers, John and Harry, all of Denison.

Anna Marie (Rasmussen) Justice (1915 - 1995)

Anna, daughter of Peter and Karen Steinicke Rasmussen, was born February 23, 1915 in San Francisco, California. She moved to Iowa with her family as a youth. She graduated from Manilla High School in 1933.

On August 24, 1937 Anna was united in marriage with Harold E. Justice in Dow City. To this union three children were born, Richard, Sharon, and Sarah. They farmed near Manilla until 1966 when they moved into town.

In 1978 they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, returning to Iowa and settling at Orchard View in Carroll in 1989. Anna lived her Danish heritage though her cooking and baking. Her family took great pride in her quilting. Some of it went as far as Africa. She was a member of the Orchard View Bible Study and the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. She provided child care, but in her day she only thought of it as babysitting.

Anna died on Monday, May 8, 1995 at her home in Carroll of an apparent heart attack. She was 80 years old, 2 months, and 15 days of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Harold, of Carroll; her children: Richard Justice and his wife, Nedra, of Panora; Sharon and her husband, Dale Judson, of Cherokee; and Sarah and her husband, Mark Lucht, of Brea, California; grandchildren: Darin and Derek Justice; Teresa and David Walker; James Scott; and Matthew and Katie Lucht; two great grandchildren: Zachary and Rebecca Walker; the following brothers and sisters: Leo Rasmussen and his wife, Grace, of Manilla; Elna and her husband, Lucien Bender, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Otto Rasmussen and his wife, Hazel, of Manilla; Betty and her husband, Bon Harvey, of Hurst, Texas; Jack Rasmussen and his wife, Ellen, of Manilla; Robert Rasmussen and his wife, Vivian, of Manilla; Doris and her husband, Kenneth Loeffeiman, of St. Louis, Missouri; and Carmen and her husband, John Heck, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Anna was also survived by a sister, Mabel Prosin, of Denison, who died early Friday morning, May 12, 1995.

Services were Saturday, May 13, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. in the United Church of Manilla. Officiating was Reverend Lanny Tuttle of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Music was by Kathy McLaren and Jan Mills. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Teresa Walker, James Scott, Matthew Lucht, Katie Lucht, Darin Justice and Derek Justice. The family wishes to express their gratitude for your kindness evidenced in thought, word, and deed.

Ardell Ruth (Bauer) Voss (1918 - 2003)

Ardell Ruth Voss was born August 22, 1918, the daughter of John and Minnie Nelson Bauer. She died Monday, February 10, 2003 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-four.

Ardell was born on a farm in Washington Township, Crawford County. She was baptized in Christ on January 26, 1919 at St. John Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa and later confirmed on March 25, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Ardell received her education in a rural school in Washington Township.

On February 4, 1940, Ardell was united in marriage to Marvin Voss at St. John Lutheran Church in Buck Grove by Rev. Elmer Greene. The couple made their home on the family farm on the Vernon Voss Road near Denison and were blessed with two children, Carol and Larry. Together they farmed until moving to Denison in the spring of 1973. After the death of Marvin on May 26. 1982, Ardell continued to live in her home until recently entering the Eventide Lutheran Home on January 13, 2003.

Ardell was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, and their Ladies Aid, where she enjoyed sewing for World Relief. She was also a member of the Fellowship Club at Zion. Ardell was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved baking for her family. She also enjoyed quilting, crafts, and doing volunteer work. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin, a brother, Raymond and a brother-in-law, Vernon Voss.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Walde and her husband, Roger of Denison; one son, Larry Voss and his wife, Kay of Denison; seven grandchildren, Lynette Mohr and her husband, Gaylen of Westside; Kevin Walde and his wife, Karla Sue of Madrid; Colleen Goering and her husband, Larry of Denison; Karla Weis and her husband, Chad of Council Bluffs; Chad Voss; Ryan Voss and his wife, Shelly; and Andrew Voss, all of Omaha; eleven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2003 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for Larry Boeck singing "On Eagle's Wings" and "I'm But a Stranger Here" and congregational hymn "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me". Honorary pallbearers were Karla Sue Walde, Karla Kaye Weis, Lynette Mohr, Shelly Voss and Colleen Goering. Pallbearers were Larry Goering, Gaylen Mohr, Andrew Voss, Kevin Walde, Chad Voss, Ryan Voss and Chad Weis. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Arlo Henry Schmidt (1917 - 1988)

Arlo Henry Schmidt, the son of Lewis C. and Frieda F. Schurke Schmidt, was born on March 8, 1917 in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Ia. He was baptized on May 18, 1917 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, and later confirmed in 1932 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He received his early education in the Otter Creek Township School.

Arlo was united in marriage to Faith Maxine Sachau on Jan. 29, 1939 at the parsonage of Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. C. W. Schmidt. Arlo loved farming, and spent all of his life on a farm in Otter Creek Township. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Denison.

Arlo died on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1988 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, having reached the age of 70 years, 10 months and five days. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maxine of Denison; one son and his wife, Lodean and Christina Schmidt of Schleswig; three grandchildren; Amber, Angela and Adam Schmidt all of Schleswig. Also survived by his brother; Virgil Schmidt and his wife Ruth of Denison.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on January 16, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated. Mrs. Darold Kahl served as organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist and congregational singing. Selections were "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me," "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Burial was in the Morgan Township Cemetery near Schleswig. Serving as pallbearers were Curtis Sachau, Delbert Sachau, Jim Schmidt, Joel Schmidt, Walter Miller and Clarence Friedrichsen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Arlo Martin Teut (1911 - 1988)

Arlo Martin Teut, the son of Herman and Anna Weidmann Teut, was born on January 20, 1911, on a farm near Ricketts, Iowa. He died November 11, 1988 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years.

Arlo grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. He worked as a hired hand for 6 years and on December 16, 1936 he and Christine Iversen of Schleswig, Iowa were united in marriage at the Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage in Soldier Township.

This union was blessed with 5 children. After their marriage Arlo and Christine lived on a farm in Ida County; where they farmed for 16 years. In November, 1971, they moved to Schleswig, Iowa and did custom fencing until they retired in 1984.

Arlo was Baptized in 1911 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township and was Confirmed on April 5, 1925 by Rev. Otto V. Gemmingen. Arlo was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township, until it was destroyed by a tornado, where he served as a Trustee for 3 years. They transferred their membership to the St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa, and when they moved to Schleswig, they transferred to the Immanual Lutheran Church in Schleswig of which he was a member at the time of his death. He served a school director for many years at Grant No. 7.

Arlo and Christine were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in December of 1986 with their children and friends. Arlo was deeply loved by his wife and family, and will live in their hearts and the hearts of his friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and four brothers. Survivors include his wife Christine of Schleswig; three daughters, Marian and her husband Richard Erickson of Sioux City, Iowa; Shirley and her husband Bernard Ridenour of Gillette, Wyoming; and Linda and her husband Bill Ramspott of Alden, Iowa.

Two sons; Peter Teut and his wife Elaine and Alan Teut and his wife Maria, all of Schleswig. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; five brothers; Melvin Teut and his wife Clara of Schleswig, Ralph Teut and his wife Ruth of Ute, Herbert Teut and his wife Arlene of Mapleton, Raymond Teut and his wife Dorothy of Florida and Everett Teut and his wife Betty of Omaha, Nebraska; and two sisters; Ruby and her husband August Waderich of Mapleton, and Erna and her husband Gilbert Nihsen of Charter Oak Iowa.

Arlo Schlimmer (1911 - 1988)

Arlo Schlimmer, the son of John and Emma Krueger Schlimmer, was born on March 23, 1911 on a farm near Denison, Ia. He attended rural schools and was a farm laborer until moving to Waterloo, where he worked for John Deere and Company for 27 years.

After retiring in 1972, Arlo moved to Harpers Ferry, where he continued to make his home. Arlo died on Feb. 24, 1988, at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie Du Chien, Wis. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo and also a member of the UAW Machinist union.

In addition to his parents; Arlo was preceded in death by a sister Loraine Stone and a brother Ross.

He is survived by two sisters, Lola Leggett of Ames, and Phyllis and her husband, Jerry Hinze of Waterloo; two brothers, Raynor Schlimmer and his wife, Vera and Adrian Schlimmer, all of Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Feb. 27, at the St. Anns Church Parlor in Harpers Ferry, with Father Duane Raftis officiating. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, with Rev. James W. Ristvedt officiating. Mrs. Daroid.Kahl served as organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist. Selections were "Rock Of Ages" and "Just As I Am." Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Serving as pallbearers were Edlef Jurgensen, Earl Keesling, Ervin Keesling, Edward J. Peters, Harold Stender and Edward Wigg. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Arnold Alfred Gluesing (1914 - 1993)

Arnold Alfred Gluesing was born on Nov. 9, 1914, the son of Alfred and Rosa Hammer Gluesing. He died on Saturday, July 31, 1993 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, at the age of seventy-eight years.

Arnold was born on a farm in Hanover Township. He was baptized on Dec. 31, 1914 and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on April 13, 1930. As a young Boy he received his education in a rural school near his home. After completing his education, Arnold worked on the farm for his father.

On Nov. 17, 1937, Arnold was united in marriage to Hattie Jepsen in Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. After their marriage they settled on a farm in Hanover Township and were blessed with the birth of two children. In December of 1957 the couple retired from farming, settled in Denison and purchased Hattie's Place, which they managed until 1975. Arnold entered the Denison Care Center in 1991 because of his health.

In his spare time, Arnold enjoyed playing cards. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Vernon, Edwin, and one in infancy; two sisters, Esther Maack and Ruth.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie of Denison; one daughter, Joyce Vogt and her husband, DeLaine of Denison; one son, Larry and his wife, Janet of Cape Girardeau, Mo. Also, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law, George Maack of Denison.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, la. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Henry and Marge Henningsen singing, "How Great Thou Art" and congregational hymns, "Just As I Am, Without One Plea" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Pallbearers were Edward Sonnichsen, Fred McClellan, Wilmer Ehrichs, DeLaine Blunk, Harold Eggert and Harold Fink. The Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Denison were in charge of arrangements.

Arno Miller (1917 - 1983)

Arno, son of Herman W. and Minnie Steckelberg Miller, was born Dec. 3, 1917, near Manilla, Iowa. He attended Manilla Public Schools and was graduated from Manilla High School in 1935. After graduation he farmed at home with his mother and brother.

On February 14, 1939, he was united in marriage with Ruth Erlewine. They farmed in various locations in the Manilla vicinity, settling on their home farm east of town in 1951.

Barney was still active in farming when he entered Crawford County Hospital in Denison for minor surgery. While in the hospital he suffered a severe stroke and was transferred to Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, where he died on June 23, 1983, at the age of 65 years, 6 months, and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Minnie, of Manilla Manor Nursing Home; by his wife, Ruth; by two daughters, Mrs. Rollin (Janell) Huffaker, Manhattan, Kansas; Mrs. Richard (Nedra) Justice, Jefferson; by one son, Jay, at home, Manilla; four grandchildren, Heidi, Ryan, Darin, and Derek; by a brother, Alvin Miller, Manilla; by two sisters, Mrs. Louis (Selma) Vennik, Manning, and Mrs. Melroy (Lucille) Carstens, Manilla; as well as by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Barney was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Manilla, and has served as Trustee and Elder. He has always been active in community affairs, serving three terms on the Manilla Community School Board, and was a member of the Community Club. He was recently honored as a Pioneer Patron of the Omaha Livestock Exchange. He has done business with the Exchange for over fifty years, starting in 1932 when he was in 4-H.

Funeral services were held June 25 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Manilla. Officiating was Rev. Frank B. Christ. Organist was Trudy Saunders. Honorary pallbearers were Harold Holdsworth, C. E. Thomas, Charles Schram, Eldred Huffaker, Dr. Boyd Merrick, Harold Justice, Ray Jorgensen and James Theobald. Pallbearers were George James, Jack Rasmussen, Bernard Jorgensen, Alan Blades, Art Joens and Bernard Stracke. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetary. Ohde Funeral Home, Manilla, was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Edward Meseck (1916 - 1998)

Arthur Edward Meseck was born October 16, 1916, the son of Otto and Sarah Krueger Meseck. He died Saturday, November 7, 1998 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-two.

Art was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on November 5, 1916 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. He received his education at St. John's Lutheran School and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on April 13, 1930.

After receiving his formal education, he farmed with his family and area farmers. Art later received his GED diploma and also attended Western Iowa Tech for one year, where he received his training in mechanics. At the time of his illness, Art was farming ir the Mapleton area, and subse quently entered the Eventide Lutheran Nursing Home in January 1994.

Art was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Charter Oak and the Lutheran Layman's League. He loved farming and raising livestock. In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling and fishing.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; twin sisters, Lorena and Leona as children; two brothers, Melvin as an infant and Rudolph Meseck in 1994; one nephew, Richard Eneboe in 1997; and one brother-in-law, Robert Eneboe.

Survivors include two sisters, Gertrude Eneboe of Charter Oak; Evelyn Eneboe and her husband, Merle of Soldier; one niece, Susan Eneboe; two nephews, Rodney Eneboe and his wife, Cheryl, all of Soldier; Randy Eneboe and his wife, Patty of Lake View; also six great nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M.,Tuesday, November 10, 1998, at the St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L. C. Gebhardt officiated the service and grave side rites held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Nearer, My God, to Thee" and "Lift High the Cross". Those serving as pallbearers were: Lawrence Meseck, Ronnie Meseck, Deryl Hennings, Gailen Meseck, Dennis Meseck and Allan Meseck. The family invited everyone at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Schultz (1916 - 1981)

Arthur Schultz was born on October 3, 1916 in Morgan Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Louis and Mary Huebner Schultz. He died on Friday evening, May 22, 1981 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa at the age of 64.

Arthur was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was raised on a family farm near Schleswig. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township where he received his formal education.

On August 24, 1941, Arthur was united in marriage to Meleta Miller at Schleswig, Iowa. Together they made their home on a farm near Schleswig. Arthur farmed all of his working career. In December 1980, he retired and moved to Schleswig.

In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by two sisters Esther and Ellen.

Survivors include, his wife Meleta of Schleswig, two sons, Marlowe of Schleswig and Lloyd of Spirit Lake, Iowa. Also by three grandchildren, Stephanie, Todd and Stacy and three sisters, Hattie, Mrs. August Schmadeke, of Schleswig, Irene, Mrs. Pete Miller of Charter Oak and Elvera, Mrs. George Moeller of Schleswig.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 26, 1981, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. S.W. Holstein officiated the services. Pallbearers included, Phillip Rabe, Bruce Hannemann, Louis Schmadeke, Raymond Schmadeke, Dennis Moeller and Louis Moeller, Honorary pallbearers were Martin Sailer, Leonard Clausen, Edwin Glau, Larry Beeck, Francis Krohnke and Gordon Quandt.

Arthur William Krueger (1917 - 1977)

Arthur William Krueger, son of Bernhard and Amelia (Eichstadt) Krueger, was born on April 19, 1917, near Charter Oak, Iowa. He died September 29, 1977, at his farm having reached the age of 60 years, 5 months and 10 days.

On August 5, 1941, he married Louise Schable in Rockport, Missouri. One daughter and three sons were born to this marriage.

After returning from the service, he and his wife farmed near Danbury, Iowa for four years. They then moved to ths farm he was born on near Charter Oak and Ricketts, Iowa.

He was a member, of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. He was baptized May 13, 1917 and confirmed January 28, 1934 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. He was a veteran of World War II.

Services were held October 1, 1977, at 1:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, with Pastor E.E. Greene officiating. Military rites at graveside were given by Homer Hall Post No. 65 of Charter Oak, Iowa. Burial was in the Immanuel Cemetery, Soldier Township. Casketbearers were Rolan Albers, Gehart Langholdt, Adolph Maas, Edward Wigg, Russell Miller and Edwin Hopp.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Krueger of Charter Oak; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Luann) Mesenbrink of Denison, Iowa; three sons, Arthur Jr. and Robert both of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Kenneth of Danbury, Iowa; five brothers, Martin of Dow City, Iowa, Adolph of Denison, Edward of Danbury, and Lester and Loren both of Charter Oak, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bess Ione (Crampton) Bral (1904 - 1992)

Funeral Program.

Bess Ione Bral was born on July 6, 1904, the daughter of William and Rose Brown Crampton, in Vail, Iowa. She died on Friday, June 12, 1992 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 87 years.

Bess grew up in Vail where she was baptized in Christ at the First Presbyterian Church in Vail by the Rev. Emery Zimmerman. Additionally, she received her formal education in the Vail Community School.

After completing her education, she was united in marriage to Frank O. Bral on August 21, 1922 and were blessed with five children. The couple lived in Denison for a few years and subsequently moved to a farm near Deloit, Iowa where they farmed for a number of years before moving to Vail.

In 1976, Frank died and Bess moved to Denison where she made her home with her daughter, Nancy Love and her husband Kenneth and their family.

Her strong faith in God allowed her to see joy in all of His creations and gave her the strength to finish to perfection, all of the many projects she started. Additionally, Bess enjoyed occupying her free time reading and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; four brothers, Clyde, Carl, Floyd, and Oliver; and two sisters, Vera and Vada. Survivors include her children: John Bral and his wife, Carole of Santa Paula, California; Nancy Love and her husband, Ken of Denison; Maxine Graham and her husband Max of Omaha, Nebraska; Robert Bral and his wife Marcella of Denison; and James Bral and his wife Lorraine of Denison. Also thirteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters Eva Crampton of Denison and Verda Benton and her husband, Lester of Denison; and one brother Jess Crampton and his wife Jane of Vail.

Carlyle B. Winey (1912 - 1997)

Carlyle B. (Dugan) Winey, husband of Martha A. Winey, was born in Milford Township, Crawford County, Iowa, April 16, 1912, the youngest child of Carlos (Carl) W. and Flora (Montgomery) Winey and passed away September 26, 1999 at the age of 87 years.

Carlyle was the youngest of a family of eight children. His brothers and sisters were from 8 to 23 years older than he. He was dubbed "Dugan" by his brother, Raleigh, a name that he was known by all his life.

He spent his early years on the family farm near Deloit, Iowa. When he was 11 years old, he moved with his parents into the town of Deloit where he attended grade and high school. He took a course in welding, became an expert in cabinet work, plumbing; mechanical and electrical and many other skills which made it possible for him to support his family. He was noted for his inventive skills, creating new tools and equipment for his work.

Carlyle was united in marriage on November 14, 1931 to Martha Nordine Johnson and to this union were born two children, Carolyn and Charles. They made their home in Deloit for many years where they purchased their first home. In 1947 they moved to Denison, Iowa where they subsequently built a house (mostly by themselves with the help of their children and some friends). This remained their home until November of 1997 when they moved to Denison Care Center.

Carlyle worked at any possible job during the depression years in order to support his family. For some time he operated a cream station in Deloit buying cream, eggs and poultry from local farmers. Later he was timekeeper for WPA. Other jobs came along: Graves Construction Company in Crawford County with road work, culverts, Etc.; Graves moved to South Dakota for construction and Carlyle and family went along.

Later he went to Clarinda, Iowa with Fritz Construction, running the cement mixer for paving. The next project was with Booth and Olson then on the extra gang for Northwestern Railroad where track was laid from Council Bluffs to Dunlap, while the family continued to live in Deloit. Finally a permanent job with the State Highway Commission until he was drafted into the Navy in 1944.

He took his basic training in Couer d' Alene, Idaho, attended gunnery schools in California and served as a Gunner's Mate in the Armed Guard Division of the U. S. Navy aboard the ship SS Russell Sage in the Pacific until World War II ended in 1945.

Following his discharge, he worked at various jobs, spending one summer traveling with the carnival, worked for Bond Bread Company, the Denison Police Force and lastly the Denison Municipal Utilities where he worked as electrician and lineman for 30 years, retiring in 1974 at the age of 62.

After retiring Carlyle kept busy with hunting, fishing, yard and garden work, camping, various club activities, visiting with friends, meeting with many to have morning coffee, and card playing. He and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States exploring and visiting friends and family. He and Martha made trips to the east in search of family history information in which he took great interest and pride.

In 1990 a Winey family history was created and published by Carlyle and Martha and purchased and enjoyed by many family members.

Carlyle was a member and past president of Izaak Walton League; member and past president of Golden K Club of Denison; Pheasants Forever, AARP, American Legion, Veterans Of Foreign Wars, Member of Color Guard for many years honoring fellow service men; Cutty's Association, Good Sam's Club, Coachman's Association, and the Methodist Church.

Carlyle and Martha observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1981 with a reception planned by their children, Carolyn and Charles. In 1996 they observed their 65th anniversary with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. At the time of his death they had been married 67 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents Carlos (Carl) W. and Flora (Montgomery) Winey, Cherith "Abbie" (Mrs. Clarence) Hutchinson, and Rebecca "Dottie" (Mrs. Maurice) Holihan; four brothers, Merrill "Crook", Robert "Raleigh", Calvin "Pat", and Louis "Arthur" Winey; a great grandson, Jared Kilker and Edward Gladman, the husband of his granddaughter, Tamara.

Carlyle leaves to mourn his Wife, Martha, his daughter, Carolyn Winey of Estes Park, Colorado, his , son, Charles Winey and wife, Delores of Omaha, Nebraska, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Carmen Friederike (Burk) Frahm (1913 - 2006)

Carmen Friederike Frahm, daughter of Theodore and Hilda Bendixsen Burk, was born on their farm near Schleswig, Iowa July 16, 1913.

She died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, one week after her ninety-third birthday.

Carmen was baptized into the Christian faith on December 7, 1913 and confirmed her faith April 1, 1928 at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. She received her education in a rural school. At the age of nine Carmen's mother died and Carmen made her home with her grandmother until the age of fourteen when she lived with her aunt in Schleswig.

As a young adult Carmen worked in Denison, Iowa, where she met and married Anton Frahm on September 5, 1937. Carmen and Anton lived in Denison and raised four children during their fifty-three years of marriage.

They enjoyed extensive traveling, playing cards and visiting family during their many years together, where she was a devoted wife and mother. Anton passed away July 24, 1990.

Carmen became a Dorcas Society member in 1939, and served in every office capacity and did volunteer activities. She was also a member of a Garden Club for several years and was an accomplished seamstress. The past six and one half years Carmen was a resident of the Reed House where she was provided a loving, safe environment in her final years.

Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Lanetta Lyon and Luella Lord, one brother, Ralph, and first son, Keith.

She is survived by her children Phyllis Hamrick of Kansas City, Missouri; Phil Frahm and wife, Laraine of Orlando, Florida; Jerry Frahm and his significant other, Sally Kingston of Dow City; Dennis Frahm and his wife, Beth of Loveland, Colorado; six grandchildren, Jaf, Ericka, John, Drew, Blake and Stacy; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Nearer, My God, to Thee", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Just as I Am, Without One Plea". Those serving as pallbearers were: Phyllis Hamrick, Dennis Frahm, Jerry Frahm, John Frahm, Phil Frahm and Jaf Frahm. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Dorcas Society. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Caroline Anna Wileheminia (Schwartz) Ewoldt (1919 - 2006)

Caroline Anna Wileheminia Ewoldt was born May 17, 1919, the daughter of Johann Friedrich and Helena Dorothea Wohlert Schwartz Jr. She died at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the age of eighty-six years, eight months and twenty-nine days.

Caroline was born near Schleswig, Crawford County, Iowa and was baptized, August 17, 1919 at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig and later confirmed there on Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933. She received her education in rural schools between Schleswig and Ricketts, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Leroy Maas and to this union one daughter, Adella was born. Leroy died in 1944 during WWII.

On March 5, 1948, Caroline was united in marriage to Erlin Julius Ewoldt. The couple settled on a farm near Schleswig for seven years and were blessed with the birth of six boys and one daughter. They also farmed various places in southwest Iowa Communities. After her children were in school, Caroline was self-employed as a house cleaner. In 1974, she joined her husband in a business of custom fencing and snow removal until the death of Erlin in 1996 and then worked together with her son, Howard in the fencing and snow removal business for one year.

In her leisure time, Caroline enjoyed polka dancing, listening to Polka Music and the Polka Party. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, needle work for herself and her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Leroy and her husband, Erlin; three sons, Howard and two in infancy; two granddaughters; one brother, Fritz Schwartz; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

Survivors include two daughters, Adella Farley and her husband, Larry; Irene Ewoldt, all of Manilla; three sons, Delbert Ewoldt of Council Bluffs; Joe Ewoldt and his wife, Penny of Vail; Earl Ewoldt and his wife, Micheles of Breda; seven grandchildren, Jeremy and his friend, Amy Wimpe of Breda; Dustin and his wife, Kalina of Fort Myers, Florida; Emmalee and her friend, Chris Julin of Vail; Crystal and her husband, Jerome Creasy Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska; Elizabeth of Huxley; Beau J. and Jared of Breda; Janae and her husband, Robert Mallory of Council Bluffs; four great-grandchildren, Selena and Robert Mallory Jr., Rylee and Sean Ewoldt; one sister-in-law, Mary E. Ewoldt of Rapid City, South Dakota; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p m Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the service and grave side services held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. David Ewold provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Penny Ewoldt singing, "In the Garden" and for Congregational Hymn, "How Great Thou Art". Other service music included a CD of "Footsteps" by David O'Donnell. Honorary Pallbearers were: Beau Jay Ewoldt, John Ehrichs jr., Dustin Ewoldt, Jeremy Ewoldt and Stanley Ewoldt. Pallbearers were: Wayne Behrend, Delbert Gierstorf, Arlen Gierstorf, Arlo Schwanz, Donald Ewoldt and Lloyd Carlson. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Denison Community Room, catered by Staley's Food Service. Caroline Marie (Quandt) Petersen (1915 - 2007)

Caroline Marie Petersen was born September 12, 1915, the daughter of Max and Dora Blunk Quandt. She died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of ninety-one. Caroline was born in Charter Oak and received her education at country school in Hanover.

On January 16, 1935 she was united in marriage to Richard H. Petersen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm in Ida Grove and were blessed with the birth of three children. The couple then moved to Blue Island, Illinois, later returning to Iowa, living in Kenwood.

In 1946, they moved to a farm near Charter Oak and farmed until 1960, when they moved into town in Charter Oak and in 1962, purchased Dick's Tavern and Cafe. Caroline became famous for her cooking, especially her hamburgers. The couple operated the tavern and cafe for seventeen years, until their retirement in 1972.

Caroline was a wonderful mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and socializing with friends. She was an avid Euchre player and also enjoyed playing bingo. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard in 1998; one brother, Herb Quandt and his wife, Anna; three sisters, Edna Boeck and her husband, Carl; Mildred Braasch and her husband, Henry; and Margaret Quandt.

She is survived by two sons, Lloyd and his wife, Lois of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and Larry of Cnarter Oak; one daughter, LaVonne Stamp and her husband, Leroy of Elkhorn, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Garnet Witt of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the services and graveside rites held at St. Paul's Cemetery, Charter Oak, Iowa. Organist Art Beeck provided accompaniment for the soloist hymn, "How Great Thou Art," and the congregational hymns, "Amazing Grace," and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were LuVerne Kohnekamp, Sophia Sailer, Bob Nocita, Eana Johannsen, Ardis Nelson.

Carsten Carstensen (1913 - 1999)

Carsten Carstensen was born October 9, 1913, the son of Jens and Margaretha Petersen Carstensen. He died at this home near Ida Grove, Iowa, on Saturday, September 11, 1999 at the age of eighty-five.

Carsten was born in Ostbordelum, Germany and was baptized and confirmed in Christ there. He received his education in Germany and in 1930, moved to America with his family and farmed with his father. In 1949, Fritz and Carsten began farming together until 1955, when Carsten retired and moved to his parents residence to care for his mother. He resided there until the time of his death.

Carsten was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He was a very loving and caring man who loved his family and cherished the beauty of flowers and loved to care for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Johann, Hans and Friedrich Carstensen, and two sisters, Lena Carstensen and Anna Harder.

Survivors include one sister, Inge Carstensen of Ida Grove; and one sister-in-law, Elsie Carstensen of Ida Grove.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Nancy and Krista Krueger singing, "How Great Thou Art" and "Take Thou My Hand and Lead Me" and congregational hymn, "He Leadeth Me". Those serving as pallbearers were Jens Peter Carstensen, Thomas Senhen, Wayne Schroeder, Grover Senhen, Robert Krueger and Dave Nemitz. Catherine Pauline (Simons) Dahleen (1910 - 2006)

Catherine Pauline Dahleen was born September 25, 1910, the daughter of William and Stephania Streit Simons on a farm near Odebolt, Iowa. She .died Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-six.

She was baptized as an infant, attended Odebolt Schools and grew to womanhood on a farm near Odebolt. Following schooling she did domestic work for others in the Odebolt area.

She was married to Henry A. Dahleen on January 23, 1930 at Denison, Iowa. They made their home on farms in the Denison, Schleswig and Kiron areas, retiring from farming in 1965 and moved to Denison: After moving to Denison, Catherine was. employed at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital and helped her husband, Henry, as custodian at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Catherine was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1953 and was a member of the Denison Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 8 Auxiliary of Denison. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, dancing, fishing and traveling.

Catherine is survived by the following children: Elaine Reimer of Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico; Edward Dahleen and his wife, Darlyne of Denison; Fanchon Neubauer of Newton; Cheryl Schillerberg and her husband, Alan of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; and Larry Dahleen and his wife, Marcia of Monticello, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Simons of Arion and Luella Dahleen of Knoxville, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jim Gillespie and his wife, Marilyn of Lake City; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Those preceding her in death were her husband, Henry in 1993; a granddaughter, Linda Walde; her daughter-in-law, Louise Dahleen; her son-in-law, Virgil Neubauer; her brothers, John, Paul, William and Clarence Simons; sisters, Helen Plain, Alice Gillespie and half-sister, Laura Bedel.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Cathrine Margaret (Iversen) Ipsen (1918 - 1997)

Cathrine Margaret Ipsen, age 79, of Schleswig died August 2, 1997, at the Denison Care Center.

Cathrine was born May 21, 1918 to Hans and Marie (Jensen) Iversen on a farm northwest of Schleswig. She attended the Morgan Township No. 2 Country School. She was confirmed in the Friedens Evangelical Church.

She was employed as a housekeeper until she married Werner Ipsen on April 23, 1939. She was a member of the United Church of Christ of Schleswig. She was involved in the VFW Women's Auxiliary, UCC Women's Guild, and the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliaiy and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and visiting family and friends.

She is survived by seven sons, Bob and Betty of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Arthur and Gloria of Schleswig, Gary and Peg of Story City, Edward and Sheila of Denison, David and Georgia and Steven and Robin of Nixa, Missouri, and Marc and Jill of Story City; and eight daughters, Carol and Bob of Eugene, Oregon, Lila of Urbandale, Diane and Wayne of Vinton, Susan of Denison, Pat and Eddie of Fulton, Missouri, Doris and Frank of Kansas City, Missouri, Deb and Jim of Boulder, Colorado and Nancy and Greg of Sioux City; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jeff and Richard and Marian of Schleswig, Howard and Charlene of Vail, and Donald of Encino, California, and one twin sister, Christine Teut of Schleswig.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one granddaughter, Breaira and a brother, Frank.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 1997, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing, "My Father's Angels" and congregational hymns, "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". Those serving as pallbearers were Robert Iversen, Ross Iversen, Bob Iversen, Lowell Teut, Pete Teut and Al Teut. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Women's Guild. Cecilia (Smith) Maack (1916 - 1991)

Cecilia, daughter of Norman and Kate Maloney Smith, was born Jan. 31, 1916 at Denison, Iowa. She lived on the farm with her parents and attended rural schools near her home. She graduated from Denison High School in 1933 after which she worked at Welch's Cafe, Montgomery Ward, and Thrifty Food Market.

On Dec. 19, 1945 Cecil was united in marriage with John Maack, Jr. at the Catholic rectory in Denison. They lived on a farm south of Denison until 1954 when they moved to a farm south of Vail. In 1966 they moved to Manilla where they operated the C & J Cafe until 1971.

The next year they began working and living at the Crawford County Home where Cecil was the cook and her husband helped with the farm work. In 1976 they moved back to Manilla where Cecil began working at the newly opened Manilla Manor Nursing Home as a cook. In 1978 her husband died.

When Cecil's health began to fail in 1980 she became a resident of the Manor where she was very helpful with other residents in crafts and other activities. In late 1990, Cecil's health seriously began to fail and she died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 1991 at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 16 days.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy; and by two grandsons.

Survivors include her children: Mary and her husband, Ron Rasmussen of Manilla, Jane and her husband, Tom Murphy of Germantown, Md., and Norma and her husband, Dennis Wamboldt of Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren: Cheryl, Roger, Brenda and Tammy Rasmussen, Kate Murphy, Shannon and Patrick Wamboldt; other relatives and friends. Cecil was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manilla.

A wake service followed by Rosary was held Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Church in Manilla on Friday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Father Lloyd White officiating. Music was by the Sacred Heart Choir. Interment was in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery at Denison, Iowa at 1 p.m. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Rasmussen and Pat Wamboldt. Pallbearers included Charles Maack, Willis Maack, Bob Jepsen, Pete Jepsen, John Rasmussen and Merlin Maack. The Ode Funeral Home in Manilla was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles L. Carlson (1912 - 1994)

Charles L. Carlson was born February 19, 1912, the son of Albin and Alice Wells Carlson. He died at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison on Monday, April 4, 1994 at the age of eight-two years.

Charles grew up in Crawford County and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts.

On February 11, 1932, Charles was was united in marriage to Clara Zobel in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple returned to Crawford County and settled on a farm south of Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of two sons.

In 1940, Charles began farming and provided custom farming services in the area in addition to selling seed corn in the region. In 1960, he retired from farming and moved to Ricketts but continued providing custom farming until 1971. He opened the Pop Inn in Ricketts and owned and operated it until 1982, when he retired as a consequence of ill health.

He was a loving and caring husband and father who enjoyed fishing with his children and working. In his leisure time, he enjoyed socializing with family and friends and was active in community affairs as a member of the Ricketts Community Club, and a member of the Ricketts volunteer fire department for many years. Additionally, he was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Layman's League.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Earl, John, Nathan and Beryl; one sister, Etherl Hesse; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Carlson and two grandsons.

Survivors include: his wife, Clara; two sons, Lloyd of Ricketts and Larry and his wife, Donna of Hills, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Carlson and his wife, Margaret of Denison; five sisters: Lois Adams of Charter Oak; Edna Blunk of Denison; Delores Krueger of Denison; Florence Jones of Ute and Lucille Benningsdorf of Ida Grove; and one sister-in-law Ella Mae Carlson of Ute.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M Thursday, April 7, 1994: at the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa with Rev. Eugene Ernst officiating the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak, Iowa. Marlene Lee provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Chester Ernest Martin (1914 - 1999)

Chester Ernest Martin was born November 10, 1914, the son of Harry and Delia Bishop Martin. He died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Tuesday, April 27, 1999 at the age of eighty-four.

Chuck, as he was known to all, was born in Tate, Pawnee County, Nebraska. He received his education in Beatrice, Nebraska schools and graduated from the Burchard High School in Burchard, Nebraska with the class of 1932.

After completing his education, Chuck worked for the U.S. Department of Interior in Omaha. In 1936, he moved to Denison and worked for Brady Transfer, then Gold Bond.

On December 4, 1938, Chuck was united in marriage to Viola Jane Mesenbrink at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. In 1939, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt. The couple settled in Denison and were blessed with the birth of one son.

Chuck was first employed by Montgomery Ward in Denison and subsequently promoted to the manager of the shoe department at Wards in Denver, Colorado He later transferred back to Denison where he was the manager of the furniture department at Wards.

In the early forties, he started the Martin Furniture Store in Denison. In 1945, he was drafted into the US. Army serving his country as an NCO for the 821 supply outfit. He was decorated with the WWII Victory Medal and received his honorable discharged May 31,1946.

One of the most notable events in his life was harness racing. The horse he owned and trained, named Goldie Bales was inducted into the Iowa Harness Racing Immortal Hall of Fame in 1996 for having set a record for winning more races in 1953 than any other horse in the United States. Goldie Bales never placed below third place in any race in her career, dating from the late forties to the early sixties.

As television became introduced in the early fifties, Chuck closed the furniture store and started Denison Radio and TV with partners Bob North and Ted Abbot. He later began working in the advertisement department for Denison radio station KDSN and remained there until his retirement in 1976. After retiring, Chuck and his wife, Viola often, wintered in Florida or Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Viola in 1996.

Survivors include me son, Bernard (Bud) and his wife, Norma, and one granddaughter, Sarah, all of Huntsville, Alabama; and one grandson, John, and his wife, Debbie and great-grandchildren, Anna and Logan of Parker, Colorado.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, April 30, 1999 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gilford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and congregational hymn "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Pallbearers were Larry Mesenbrink, Dennis Bergstadt, Frank Jorgensen, Walt Morrison, Jim Clark and Don Uker. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. Chris Carl Hennings (1918 - 1968)

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 3, 1968 for Chris "Babe" Hennings at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ricketts, Iowa with Pastor Frederick A. Wiese officiating. Comfort in music by Mrs. Everett Gronau, organist, who accompanied the congregation in singing "I'm But A Stranger Here" and "Asleep In Jesus."

Chris Carl, the son of Peter Hennings and Jessie nee Eyer was born December 16th, 1918 in Soldier Township. At the age of one, he moved with his parents to the town of Ricketts where he always lived.

He was in various businesses as the Trucking Industry, ran a Star Route for the United States Mail, and owned one of the local filling stations. He held membership in the Ricketts Fire Department for over 25 years.

He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, a founder of St. Luke's and served on the Church Board. He was married to Arlene Klinker by Pastor C. W. Schmidt of Denison on June the 4th, 1944.

Last June, he had major surgery at Sioux City and since that time his health became worse. He died at St. Luke's Medical Center, West, on Monday evening.

He is survived by his wife Arlene, 3 children Crystal, Arlen and Mary, all at home; by his mother, Jessie Hennings of Ricketts; two brothers, Earl of Denison, and Virgil of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by one brother Arthur Glen and one sister Mae.

Pallbearers were Vernon Carstensen, P. E. Johannsen, Leonard Namanny, Donald Flanagan, Wilbert Langholdt and Phillip Rabe. Interment was made at Garden of Gethsemane Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa.

Cyrenus Petersen (1914 - 1999)

Cyrenus Petersen was born November 8, 1914, the son of John and Amanda Burk Petersen. He died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Friday, July 23, 1999 at the age of 84.

Cyrenus was born in Schleswig and was baptized in Christ on March 11, 1915 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig and later confirmed there on March 24, 1929. He received his elementary and high school education in Schleswig schools.

On November 29, 1936, Cyrenus was united in marriage to Kathleen Ann Molony in Schleswig, Iowa where they made their home. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children. Cyrenus was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig. He was also a member of Farm Bureau and of Coop. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed woodworking, working on machinery, fixing things and, years ago, enjoyed playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Katie of Schleswig. One daughter, Janice of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sons, Charles and his wife Janet of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Craig of Schleswig. Four grandchildren, Shannon, Jordan, April and Ashley Petersen, all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one brother, Walter Petersen of Schleswig; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 27, 1999 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Lift High the Cross". Pallbearers were Milton Wassgren, Sydney Winquist, Gerald Meeves, Melvin Petersen, Larry Wiebers and Palmer Moeller. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Elonore Louise (Hargens) Meggers (1915 - 2006)

Elonore Louise Meggers was born December 7, 1915, the daughter of George C. and Matilda Schultz Hargens. She died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa at the age of ninety.

Elonore was born on a farm in Crawford County, near Ricketts, Iowa and received her education at St. Paul's Lutheran School, Hanover Township, Charter Oak and a rural school near her home. She was baptized in Christ, January 16, 1916 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and later confirmed there on July 23, 1933.

After completing her education she kept house and cared for a senior lady until her marriage to Peter J. Meggers on January 29, 1941. The couple made their home on a farm in Willow Township, later moving to a farm in Otto Creek Township and then to Hanover Township where they lived until 1969 at which time they retired and moved to Charter Oak. Peter passed away on February 14, 1976.

On August 22, 1978, Elonore was then married to John F. Meggers at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison by Rev. Jack Heck. The couple continued to live in Charter Oak. After John's death on May 29, 1998, Elonore remained in Charter Oak until moving to the Manilla Manor on October 1, 2002 due to health reasons.

Elonore was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She was a beautiful seamstress who enjoyed sewing and mending for family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, quilting and making lap robes at church. Caring for her flowers, lawn and garden were also among her favorites. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing Bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter; her husband, John; one sister, Dorothea Henkel; five brothers, Walter Nemitz, Ernest Nemitz, William Nemitz, Alvin Hargens and Louie Hargens Sr. Survivors include one sister, Esther Turner and her husband, Belton of Sun City, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Dena Nemitz of Denison; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "I Know That My Redeemer . Lives", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Abide With Me". Those serving as pallbearers were: Roger Hargens, George Hargens, Vernon Nemitz, Dean Hargens, Louis Hargens, Jack Hargens, Glen Henkel, Bob Hargens, Bill Hargens and Dale Henkel. A Prayer Service was held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Elroy Hansen (1916 - 1998)

Elroy Hansen was born November 21,1916, the son of Myers and Ella Boysen Hansen. He died at the Reed House in Denison, Iowa Monday, November 2, 1998 at the age of eighty-one.

Elroy was born in Deloit, Iowa, where he received his education at the Deloit Community Schools, graduating from the Deloit High School with the class of 1934.

On March 27, 1940, Elroy was united in marriage to Lucille Kenyon at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, The couple settled on the family farm south of Denison, where they lived until retiring to Denison in 1987.

Elroy was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Denison and the Good Sam's Club. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather. Elroy loved farming and raising cattle, hogs and chickens. He also enjoyed socializing with his friends in a game of cards. Elroy loved Denison, but enjoyed spending the winters in Weslaco, Texas for nineteen years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucille on October 31, 1997 and one brother, Leo Hansen.

Survivors include one son, Richard Hansen and his wife, Patsy of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Judy Bogen of Ramsey, New Jersey; Lynnda Behrens and her husband, Merritt of Wyckoff, New Jersey; two grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Opal Hansen of Denison; Phyllis Kenyon of Kearney, Nebraska; Arley Goodwin of Fountain Valley, California; one brother-in-law, Harold Kenyon and his wife, Carol of Schenandoah, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 6, 1998 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Denison, Iowa. Elder Ted Morns officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Carrie Morris provided the piano music and the Morrison family sang"In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were: Merritt Behrens, LeRoy Childress, Clayton Bral, Jason Hansen, Eric Hansen and Joe Boysen. Elsabe Albertina (Hollander) Greene (1914 - 2002)

Elsabe Albertina Greene was born June 1, 1914, the daughter of Otto and Rosa Riessen Hollander. She died Saturday, August 10, 2002 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.

Elsabe was born near Schleswig, Iowa and after receiving her education, she was united in marriage to Clarion Greene in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 31, 1946. The couple settled in Denison and were blessed with the birth of one son.

Elsabe worked for Crawford County Sheriff N.P. Cavett in the 1940's and later at the Crawford County Treasurer and Auto Department, retiring in 1974.

Elsabe was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denison. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who always had time for her family. In her leisure time, Elsabe enjoyed reading, crocheting and socializing with friends over a cup of coffee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clarion in 1996. Survivors include her son, Bill Greene and his wife, Linda, two grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Greene, all of Ames; one sister-in-law, Louise Osterlund of Denison; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Chrisa L. Ferguson officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Elsie (Claussen) Frehse (1911 - 1987)

Elsie Frehse was born on September 4, 1911 near Berne, Iowa, the daughter of Hans Claussen and Dora Namanny Claussen. She died on January 27 1987 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 13 days. Elsie grew up near Berne and attended the McAhren school.

On June 8. 1930 she was united in marriage to Hugo Frehse of Denison at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Rev. William Freese officiating. To this union one son was born.

After their marriage Hugo and Elsie moved to Denison into the house she lived in until July of 1985 when she entered Eventide Lutheran Home for the Aged following a stroke. She was a devoted wife and mother and was the bookkeeper for the family business.

Elsie was baptized and later confirmed on March 28, 1926 at the Zion Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid since 1931.

In addition to her parents Elsie was preceded in death by one sister Hilda (Mrs. Merle) Lindstrom and one brother Henry Claussen.

Survivors include her husband Hugo, her son Harold and his wife Una Bell Frehse, three grandchildren, Jeffery and his wife Deborah Frehse, Craig and his wife Tamie Frehse and Candace Frehse all of Denison. Four great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Ryan Frehse and Gerrett and Danielle Frehse, one brother Pete Claussen of Denison, two sisters, Marie and her husband Lawrence Bettin of Lake View, Emma and her husband Henry Hausman of Odebolt and one sister-in-law Mrs. Ione Claussen of Denison, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 1987 at the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald Fraker officiating. Burial was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, The Garden Of Gethsemane. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for Congregational singing of "What A Friend We Have. In Jesus", "Abide With Me" and "How Great Thou" Art". Serving as pallbearers were Charles Bettin, Darold Lindstrom, Scott Claussen. Jerry Frehse, and Gene Frehse. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Elsie Irene (Petersen) Carstensen (1915 - 2000)

Elsie Irene Carstensen was born October 26, 1915 the daughter of Peter W. and Hulda Brockman Petersen. She died at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday, March 23, 2000 at the age of eighty-four.

Elsie was born in Hanover Township, Schleswig, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on February 8, 1916 at her parent's home by Rev. Runge and later confirmed in 1928 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig by Pastor Firnhaber.

On December 19, 1935, Elsie was united in marriage to Freddie Schroeder. The couple were blessed with the birth of two children, Elaine and Wayne. Freddie died on March 12, 1944. Elsie was united marriage to Friedrich Carstensen on February 25, 1949 in Schleswig, Iowa by Rev. Friedrich Weise. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, Jens and Janice.

Elsie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed socializing with friends with a cup of coffee, playing cards and visiting on the telephone. She also enjoyed baking and painting pillow cases and towels. Elsie was a devoted friend who as her friends knew "she worried about everyone."

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Freddie, her husband, Friedrich, one daughter, Elaine; two brothers, C. Henry and Bernhard Petersen.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Schroeder and his wife, Carolyn of Ida Grove; Jens Carstensen of Sioux City; one daughter, Janice Nemitz and her husband, David of Denison; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emil Petersen and his wife, Lillie of Schleswig; Jurgen Petersen of Denison; one sister-in-law, Inge Carstensen of Ida Grove; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2000 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Sharon Thompson provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Henry Henningsen as he sang "Rock of Ages" and for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Lift High the Cross". Elsie Eleanore (Miller) Keating (1916 - 1984)

Elsie Eleanore Keating was born on Feb. 2, 1916 at Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Mary Hagen Miller. She died on May 30, 1984, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb., at the age of 68.

Elsie was raised south of Ute. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Charter Oak for her primary education. Later she attended the Ute High School in Ute. After the completion of her education, she was employed in Denison.

On Dec. 28, 1936, Elsie was united in marriage to Vincent Keating. Together they made their home on a farm near Denison. After raising her family, Elsie was employed in Denison for a brief number of years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and a member of St. Rose of Lima Guild.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include, her husband Vincent of Denison, three sons, Dennis of Littleton, Colo., Richard of Charter Oak and David and Parker, Colo. Also surviving are six grandchildren, one brother, Eugene F. Miller of Denver and three sisters, Irene, Mrs. Francis Smith of Omaha, Mrs. Mary Fineran of Deloit and Betty, Mrs. Herb Sievers of Omaha, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on June 2, at 10 A.M. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Burial was in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery. Father Lloyd W. White and Father Allan Riecks officiated at the Mass and graveside Rites. Mrs. Tom Hanigan served as organist for the mass with St. Rose of Lima Choir. The Parish rosary was recited at 8:00 p.m. the evening before the funeral mass. Pallbearers were Richard Keating Jr., Michael Keating, Roger Fineran, Larry Struck, Randy Struck and Leonard Keating, Jr. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Elsie (Krueger) Meseck (1919 - 1979)

Elsie Meseck was born on October 26, 1919, at Dows, Iowa. She was the adopted daughter of Herman and Amanda Hennings Krueger. She died on Saturday, September 22, 1979, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Denison, Iowa at the age of 59.

Elsie was baptized as an infant in Fort Dodge, Iowa and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 9, 1933 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She received her formal education in the Ricketts Public School. During the years of her confirmation she attended Immanuel Lutheran School.

On May 26, 1940 Elsie was united in marriage to George Meseck at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home and farmed near Ricketts. Elsie was active in her church having membership in the Ladies Aid, the Lutheran Laymans League and the Lutheran Women Missionary League. Elsie also took an active interest in the Lutheran Social Services.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson. Survivors include her husband, George of Charter Oak, three daughters, Karen, Mrs. Paul Aschinger of Westside, Georgene, Mrs, Mike Schaben and Vickie, Mrs. Larry Flammang of Mapleton and two sons, Gailen and Dennis both of Charter Oak. Also by seventeen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 25, 1979, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. E.E. Greene officiated at the services. Pallbearers included DuWayne Meseck, Lawrence Meseck, Delbert Rabe, Darryl Hennings and Arthur Krueger

Elsie M. (Hansen) Schroeder (1917 - 2002)

Elsie M. Schroeder was born May 23, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Mary Boyens Hansen. She died December 22, 2002, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-five.

Elsie was born in Denison and was baptized July 22, 1917. She attended rural schools near her home in Denison.

On December 5, 1937, Elsie was united in marriage to Cornelius Schroeder at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Carl Schmidt and were blessed with the birth of two children. The couple lived with Cornelius' parents for two years, moving to the Ted Lohse farm northwest of Schleswig. Elsie and Cornelius remained on the farm until 1946, when Cornelius died.

Elsie then moved back to the Thomas Schroeder home in Schleswig. She began keeping house for area families and in 1951, began working at Bill's Market in Schleswig. In 1962, Elsie began babysitting, which she enjoyed until her retirement. On February 12, 2001, Elsie moved to the Denison Care Center.

In her spare time, Elsie was a passionate card player, enjoyed playing Bingo, and socializing with family and friends. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cornelius; one sister, Anna Schroeder; two brothers, Raymond Hansen and Vernon Hansen and his wife, Betty; one half-sister, Vernet Nehls and her husband, Virgil; one stepsister, Fern Schmidt and her husband, Ronald; and one great-grandson, Jakob Hamer.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Hamer of Carroll, Iowa; and her son, Tom Schroeder and his wife, Nancy of Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren: Deena Bachman, Shane Hamer, Dion Hamer, and Cory Schroeder; seven great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, J. Henry Schroeder of Denison; two sisters-in-law, Elvera Hansen of Denison; and Luella Reincke of Schleswig; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2002 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Lee Mentink officiated the service and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". Those serving as pallbearers were: Chris Juergensen, Sonny Chaney, Jay Chaney, Quent Strandburg, Dennis Hansen, Gary Koch, and Ryan Koch. Elsie M. (Crane) Schultz (1918 - 1993)

Elsie M. Schultz, age 79, of Denison, died Sunday, May 17, 1993 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. She was born June 16, 1918 on a farm near Vail, Iowa, the daughter of Eathen and Ollie Turpin Crane.

Elsie was united in marriage to Ralph Schultz June 9, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Kiron, Iowa. Ralph died April 21, 1996.

Elsie taught in rural schools in Crawford County, also Kiron and Wellman School District before retiring from the Ar-We-Va School District in 1987. She and her husband farmed near Kiron retiring in 1993 when they moved to Denison.

Elsie was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, she enjoyed decorating wedding cakes, embroidery work, history and photography.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Whited and husband John of Ames, Iowa, and Wanda Babcock of Henderson, Nevada, three sons Douglas Schultz and wife Patricia of Grand Mound, Iowa, Glenn Schultz and wife Barbara of Sioux City, Iowa, and Meredith Schultz and wife Terry of Red Oak, Texas, nine grandchildren and one great grandson, three sisters Mildred Hutchinson, of Denison, Iowa, Norma Dreeszen of Cushing, Iowa and Barbara Ann Heidbrier and husband Wallace of Duluth, Minnesota, one brother Donald Crane and wife Alice of Denison, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 20,1998 at the Schleswig Community Building, Schleswig, Iowa. Officiants for the service included Mr. Dean Swenson, Mr. Matthew Jensen and Mr. Brian Hansen. Vocal music was provided by Robert and Vivian Hansen and Tom and Ellen Baurichter with Esther Coffman serving as organist. Pallbearers included Ryan Schultz, Jeff Schultz, Roger Fielmeier, Ron Ehn, Dewey Reece, and Joe Thelen. Burial was in Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Visitation was from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home, Denison, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie Therese Minna Reimers (1915 - 1995)

Elsie Therese Minna Reimers was born December 13, 1915, the daughter of Johann Gustav and Emma Rehmke Reimers. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Wednesday, September 16, 1998 at the age of 82.

Elsie was born on the family farm in Otter Creek Township, near Schleswig, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school, Otter Creek No. 3, near her home. She was baptized In Christ at Immanuel Lutheran Church, March 5, 1916, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, March 29, 1931. After completing her education Elsie remained on the farm to help her parents with their farming affairs.

In her leisure time, she loved to socialize with her friends in gatherings in Schleswig. Elsie was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and Schleswig Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1947, her father in 1964; two sisters, Hilda Schau in 1983 and Anna Reimers in 1994; and one brother, John in 1984.

Survivors include one sister, Lucille Ress and her husband, Emil of Manning, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Henrietta Reimers of Charter Oak, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Yours Forever, God of Love", "Asleep In Jesus! Blessed Sleep!" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Dan Ruser, Dorothy Ruser and Larry Clausen. Pallbearers were Dennis Gierstorf, Dennis McFarland, Kent Bornhoft, Harry Riessen, Glenn Wigg and Jerry Ernst. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Alice (Bastman) Timm (1916 - 1989)

Elsie Alice Timm, the daughter of Ben and Ida Bastman, was born on Dec. 20, 1916, in Dickinson County, Spirit Lake, Ia., and died on Sept. 28, 1989, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 72 years. Elsie grew up in the northern Iowa and Minnesota area, attending the Sioux Valley, Minn, school.

On Aug. 10, 1936, Elsie and Kermit William Timm of Charter Oak, were united in marriage in Charter Oak. This union was blessed with four children. They farmed in the Ute area until retiring in 1962, when they moved to Denison. Kermit died in 1963 and Elsie continued to make her home in Denison. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Preceding Elsie in death were her parents; her husband, Kermit; one brother and three sisters.

Surviving her are her children; Ronald Timm and his wife, Barbara of Charter Oak, Orval Timm and his wife, Kay of Charter Oak, Gary Timm and his wife, Valerie of Ute and Shirley and her husband, Walter Wardell of Callender. Also her friend and companion, Jerry Meeves; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Bastman of Long Prairie, Minn., and August Bastman of Worthington, Minn.; and two sisters, Olga Hull of Worthington, Minn., and Rose Iversen of Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with interment in the St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Mrs. Karen Kahl was organist and Henery Henningsen, soloist. Selections were; "Rock Of Ages" and "Beautiful Savior" The congregational hymn was "I'm But A Stranger Here". Serving as pallbearers were; Richard Timm, Roger Timm, Donald Timm, Craig Timm, Larry Timm, Edward Wardell, Thomas Wardell and Lance Wardell. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Elsie Williamette (Plotz) Krueger (1913 - 1990)

Elsie Williamette Krueger, the daughter of Fred and Anna Catherine Weinbrandt Plotz, was born May 1, 1913 in Hayes Township, Crawford County, near Westside, Ia. She died Jan. 13, 1990 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Ia., at the age of 76 years. Elsie grew up on a farm and attended rural school.

She was united in marriage to Martin A. Krueger of Charter Oak, Aug. 4, 1943 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage by Rev. Carl W. Schmidt. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. They farmed in Crawford County for a number of years, and in 1962, purchased the Country Store at Kenwood. They operated the store until retiring in 1980 and moving to Charter Oak; where they continued to make their home.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Martin in February of 1986.

Her survivors include her children: DeWayne Krueger and his wife, Sonja of Dow City, Dennis Krueger and his wife, Pat of Denison, Delaine Kay Spreng of Sioux City, and Delores and husband, Kamal Patel .of Englewood, Colo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and one brother, Henry Plotz and his wife, Dorothy of Akley, Minn.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. Rev. Jeff Dadisman officiated at the services with interment in the St. Paul's Cemetery near Charter Oak. Mrs. Carol Hunter was organist and Henry Henningsen was soloist. Selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Nearer, My God, to Thee." Serving as pallbearers were Vernon Koenck, Clarence Denker, Henry Boettger, Wilbur Prussing, John Hogan and Steve Diebels. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa.

Emil August Petersen (1912 - 2001)

Emil August Petersen was born December 11,1912, the son of Peter W. and Hulda Brockman Petersen. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at the age of eighty-eight.

Emil was born on a farm in Hanover Township, Denison, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on February 9, 1913 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township by Rev. Runge and confirmed in 1928 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He received his education in a rural school in Hanover Township and after receiving his education, Emil joined the Peter W. Petersen and Sons' farming operation, known as the Sunny Slope Stock Farm.

On March 12,1939, Emil was united in marriage to Lillie Bohlmann at the Lutheran Parsonage in Hanover Township. The couple remained on the farm until moving to Eventide earlier this year.

Emil was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed playing cards, checkers and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Emil also enjoyed math, following the markets and watching the farmers in the field. Earlier this year, Emil entered the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, where he enjoyed socializing and watching the squirrels.

Emil was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Sandy Ramer; three brothers, Jurgen, C. Henry and Bernhard; one sister, Elsie Carstensen and her husband, Fritz.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie of Schleswig; two daughters, Norma Hanrahan and her husband, Donald of Omaha; Joyce Petersen and her husband, Darryl of Schleswig; four grandchildren, Stacy Kelly and her husband, Bruce of Leadville, Colorado; Jay Petersen and his wife, Tricia of Kingsville, Missouri; Chad Petersen and his wife, Danae of Schleswig; Patrick Hanrahan of Chicago, Illinois; two step-granddaughters, Laurie Rubek and her husband, Mike of Omaha; Cindy Hanrahan-Lewis of Vail, Colorado; one great-grandson, Conlon Petersen; one step-great-grandson, Cam Lewis; one sister-in-law, Leila Zage of Schleswig; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2001 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Dr. Emily Ann Reuwsaat (1918 - 2001)

Dr. Emily Ann Reuwsaat, 82, a resident of The Woodland Methwick Community, died there Sunday, October 14, 2001, following a stroke. Services were at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2001, at the United Church of Manilla by the Rev. Brian Sheram, where friends called from noon until the service time. Burial was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla, Iowa. A Memorial Moment was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2001 at Methwick Center, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jack Kendall. Arrangements were done by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include four sisters, Rose (Vernon) Skarin of Woodbine, Iowa, Gertrude Burda of Beatrice, Nebraska, Laura Mottinger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Caroline (Lynn) Dent of Audubon, Iowa, two brothers, Benjamin (Joyce) Reuwsaat of San Jose, California, and Robert (Audrey) Reuwsaat of Canon City, Colorado; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Emily was born December 6, 1918, the eldest daughter of Ernst and Sarah (Trexel) Reuwsaat, in Crawford County, Iowa. She was educated in a country school and graduated from Denison High School as Valedictorian. Emily received her teaching degree from the Iowa State Teachers' College, now the University of Northern Iowa. She taught in a one-room rural school-house in Crawford and Ida counties for a few years and then acquired a position at a consolidated school with the Glidden Consolidated School.

Emily went back to continue her education at ISTC and became their first graduate assistant in the Pysycho-Educational Clinic and was certified for Elementary Education and Special Education K-12. After this time, she became the Special Education and Elementary Education supervisor in Plymouth County, Iowa.

Emily continued her education by attending the University of Nebraska and completed her Doctor of Education in 1958. She then taught at Bloomsburg State College, Pennsylvania. During her teaching career, Emily received numerous honors in the Department of Special Education. Her skill and knowledge was greatly missed when she retired in 1981.

Emily was active in A.A.U.W., the Christian Book Club, Embroidery Guild and the Quilters Guild, She also was a Master Gardener and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Erma (Mundt) Jorgensen (1915 - 1983)

Erma, daughter of Harry and Sophia Schuett Mundt, was born Sept. 7, 1915, in Crawford County, Iowa. She was graduated with valedictorian honors from Manilla High School in 1933. She also took Normal Training courses while in high school.

On March 2, 1941, she was united in marriage with La Verne Jorgensen. She and her husband farmed near Manilla all their lives until he retired and they moved into Manilla on Dec. 18, 1980. She dedicated her life to raising her family of three children and helping her husband.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla, where she was baptized and confirmed as a youth. She was a member of Trinity's Priscilla Guild. She was also a member of the Greeley Homemaker's Club, Irwin.

Erma was in failing health for several months before she died May 1, 1983. at Mercy Hospital, DesMoines, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Erma is survived by her husband, La Verne Jorgensen, Manilla; three children, Larry and his wife Kathy, Manilla, Donna and her husband, Dan Humphreys, Racine, Wis., Janette and her husband, Dave Gavin, Indianola; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Gilbert Mundt of Manilla, Leroy Mundt of Manning, Orville Mundt of Rogers, Ark.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 4, at 11 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla. Officiating was Pastor Glenn Wiechmann. Organist was Marian Jones. Vocalists were Carol Ann Segebart and Marlene Jahn. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Manly Humphreys, Bill Lorhmann, Roibert McLaren, Carl Brus, Gifford Wenzel and Ray Conrad.

Emma Marie (Krueger) Hargens (1911 - 2003)

Emma Marie Hargens was born on May 5, 1911 in Nobles County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Carl and Augusta Guse Krueger. She died on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa.

Emma was born and raised on a farm near Bigelow, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Worthington, Minnesota. She received her high school education at Worthington, Minnesota. She later attended Iowa State Teacher's College and taught school for several years in Osceola and later in Ute, Iowa and various schools in Crawford County.

In 1948, Emma was united in marriage to Alvin Hargens of Charter Oak, Iowa. Together they made their home on a farm near Charter Oak. Later they moved to Ricketts, Iowa. Her husband, Alvin passed away in 1980 and Emma remained in Ricketts until health reasons moved her to Eventide Lutheran Home in 1998. She remained there until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 1980, her parents and by four brothers and four sisters. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak. She also was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid.

Emma leaves to mourn four sisters-in-law, Eva Hargens of Denison; Elonore Meggers of Charter Oak; Esther Turner and her husband, Belton of Sun City, Arizona; Dena Nemitz of Denison; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2003 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover Township, Charter Oak. Organist Shirley Stull provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were the St. Paul's Ladies Aid. Those serving as pallbearers were: Michael Hargens, Edgar Glockzien, Raymond Loeck, Kenneth Martin, Vernon Jepsen, Kenneth Baak, and Richard Knop. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
