The St. Joseph�s Retreat Center
Church was built in 1896- one stained glass window has the Gard name on it.
Directions:
The St. Joseph�s Retreat Center, where St. Joseph
Church, rectory, and school building are located is easiest found if one travels
south on Z34 from Preston or north from Goose Lake and turns west on 120
th street. This is the only paved road for miles on Z34 and the only one
traveling west off Z34 from Goose Lake. 120th street will curve for
about a mile or two through rural Clinton County until the pavement ends at 320th
avenue. The St. Joseph Retreat Center, Sugar Creek is located on the left of
this intersection. You can travel dirt roads from Charlotte, if you wish, but
this paved road is considerably easier.
I have not found out what this center is used for
but apparently it is used by an order of the Catholic faith since it is very
well maintained and looks like a refurbished rural catholic community without a
town around it any longer. I�d love to find out that its current use is for, but
will save that for a future project. This is the cemetery where the Jacob and
Anna Gollobit family are buried.
