Sharon Township

The following history is from the Clinton Herald, July 4, 1976:

While the township was founded in 1851, it was slow in developing because of a lack of streams and almost no timber.  At one time the township post office was located about four miles north of Lost Nation and the village died away.

Lost Nation, a name surrounded by a multitude of myths, first began as a station of the Sabula, Ackley and Dakota in 1871.  Platted in 1872 and incorporated in 1904, Lost Nation became the stock and shipping center for the township and a bustling community around the turn of the century.
