Michael Stahnke Outline

I have noticed several items on my great Uncle Paul Stankee.  I have little info about him, but most list his father as Michael Stankee.  His father was Michael Stahnke.  Michael was a son of   Paul Stahnke and Elizabeth Kuhen.

The children of Paul and Elizabeth's Stahnke:

Michael Stahnke, was born in Wimislanka, Prussia, 2 Dec 1835.   He married Christine Jahnke in Prussia.  Their eldest known daughter, Christine Auguste Stahnke was christened, in Briesen Kulm, West Prussia, Prussia, 11 Aug 1861.  I can find no further records on her.

Gottleibe Euprosyne Stahnke was christened in Briesen Kulm, 14 Sep 1862, She married F. Schmidt and did not immigrate with the family to the United States.

Karolina Stahnke was apparently born next, where or when is not known.  She married Ludwig Bienkoskse and remained in the old country.

Paul Stahnke was born in Russia (probably Rayovaka) 12 Oct 1868.

Maria (Mary Stahnke was born 24 Aug 1871, in Rayovaka, Russia.

Christine and Michael's youngest was a daughter, Martha Stahnke.

Christine died and on the 17 Sep 1881, Michael married Minnie Liefield, in Russia,  and four more children were born.

They were:

William Stahnke abt 1882

Robert Stahnke 14 July 1883

August Stahnke 1879

Margaret Stahnke.

Michael Stahnke and wife Minna disembarked on the ship "Werra" when they arrived in New York,  28 Jun 1887. Children were Paul age 19, Maria age 14, Martha age 11, Ang. age age 8, Wilhelm age 6, Robert age 3 and Gustav age 2.

My data came from several sources, including a Daughter-in-law of Robert Stahnke.  She said Michael's sons were very upset by the way their mother treated her step children.  To escape Maria married John Krossa ; Martha, married J Ginter and Paul went to Clinton Co.,  Iowa.  The three took the name Stankee.

All of my families records list my grandmother as Mary Stankee Krossa. Michael and his sons by the second marriage lived in Clay County Nebraska. I have no information on Ang. Stahnke; he is listed as a male child on the ships roster and he may have died young.
