Transcribed Obituary from the 1911 DeWitt, Iowa newspaper:

Mrs. Joseph Lentz, who passed away yesterday morning at 4 o’clock at her home in this city after years of patient suffering, was born December 13, 1826 at Cumberland, Maryland. Her maiden name was Lucy Mattingly. She was united in marriage at the place of her birth to Joseph Lentz June 18, 1844. In March, 1854 she came with her husband to Cedar Rapids where they resided one year. In 1855 they moved to (the town of) DeWitt where they lived for ten years and in 1865 went to their farm at Deep Creek, where they lived a great many years and where Mr. Lentz answered his final summons in January, 1902.

Mrs. Lentz left the home farm in March of this year and came to DeWitt to reside, being called to join her husband only a short time after coming here.

Mrs. Lentz was a true Christian woman and held the high esteem of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. She was the mother of nine children, two having died in infancy. The seven living are Rev. F.G. Lentz (a Catholic Priest) of Piper City, Illinois; Mrs. M. McDermott, Clinton; L.G. Lentz of Stugart, Arkansas; C.N. Lentz of Grand Junction, Iowa; B.R. Lentz of Ogden, Iowa; Lawrence and Lucy at home.

The funeral services will be held Monday forenoon at the Catholic Church, Petersville, followed by Internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Deep Creek (a.k.a. Petersville).
