Diary Entry

1 Delightfully morning.  Cloudy, looks like rain.  Have been cleaning paint in sitting room but did not finish.  S. is still visiting down S. S.  Rec. Letter from George.  He is out of business and in sad spirits.  Beginning to fear the draft again.  Am sorry he does not look danger in the face and remember that the same hand is over him in one place as in another.  We'll see Mr. Chase if possible about a place here and let him have the chambers if S. is willing at $5.00 per month.  Called at Mrs. Andrus to see S.
3 Delightful morning and evening.  Yesterday we had rain and snow.  Went to meeting in hard rain.  Mrs. Baker's baby is sick and has been since Friday and I did not know anything about it until last night. Mrs. B. is very anxious and tears fall down her face like rain. I tried to comfort her but death looks near in dear little Charlie's face.  Can do nothing for her for he will not go to anyone but father or mother.  S. came home this noon.  Meeting was solemn as death, almost, tonight, but O how delightful.  W. C. Green has gone to Mit?
4 Very cold with snow turned to rain at night.  One session.  Called on Mrs. Baker and to stay through the evening but found her sister Mrs. Martin had come.  Found S. out on my return and did not return until nearly 7.  Today has been observed as a day of prayer by our church.  Some unpleasant things occurred early in the day but as I had to practice self denial and stay at my school I was spared that trial.  Good meeting tonight.  A deacon from near Boston was present and asked our interest in our prayers.
