Whole Body Donors
....who have a Clayton county connection

Anatomical Gifts / Anatomy Bequests / Deeded Body

A whole body donation is separate from organ donations. Prior to death an individual must authorize the donation of their body to a medical school or for medical research in order to participate in an Anatomy Bequest program.

The cadavers are used to study diseases, develop new medical procedures, to train surgeons, and for other types of medical research. Whole body donations contribute to future medial advancements.

Below is an on-going compilation of Clayton county residents (or former residents) who are among the generous Americans who each year gift their bodies for life-saving research.

~the above information was sourced from snipets of information found on a variety of websites.

~~

This data-base was inspired by the Johnson co. IAGenWeb coordinator, Cindy Booth Mayer, who created a Deeded Body database for that county website. It will be an ongoing project compiled by S. Ferrall from the following sources:

* Obituaries
* Oakland cemetery, Iowa City, Deeded Body burials (off-site database Johnson co. IAGenWeb)
* Deeded Body Program (off-site database Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa)
* Some of the dates, burial places, and other information was gleaned from other records: census records, gravestone inscriptions, cemetery burial lists, draft registrations, Social Security death records & others
