Last Thursday evening while our citizens were enjoying themselves at the debate in the school house, two young men named Noggles and Meyer played the lowest, meanest, dirtiest and most contemptible trick on them that it has ever been our misfortune to see or hear of. They took human manure and put it all over the bannisters so that when the debate was out the folks got smeared all over with the vile stuff. Our officers went to work to ferret out the guilty ones and on Saturday a warrant was issued for the above young men. Meyers plead guilty on Monday, but Noggles showed fight. On Tuesday his case was tied before Judge Kriebs. They were both found guilty and fined $100. each, in default of which they were sent to Hotel de Kann. ~Elkader Register, Thur., 19 Nov. 1891
