M.R. Welsch, one of the pioneer children of Clayton County, Ia., was born here on Dec. 11, 1853. His father, Michael Welsch, was a native of France, born in 1812. He came to the United States in 1853, and settled in Clayton County in that year. In 1854 he located on the place where the family now reside. Michael Welsch died Apr. 5, 1880. The subject of this sketch was married June 24, 1880, to Emma Werner, who was born in Iowa, Apr. 10, 1858. Mr. Welsch is a member of the Catholic church, and in politics is a Democrat. source: History of Clayton
