Alfred Sloan

Alfred Sloan (deceased) farmer; postoffice, Strawberry Point; son of George W. and Salley (White) Sloan; they were natives of New York, where they died. Alfred was born in the above State, July 7, 1832; he was educated there and worked at farming until he came to Iowa, in 1856, and bought the farm where his family now reside the same year; it consists of 800 acres on section 27 and the whole of section 28; by his untiring energy and hard work, the farm is mostly under fine imporvement. In 1852 he married Sarah, daughter of Levi C.and Naomi (Munger) Miller, natives of New York, where Levi died in 1857. Sarah was born Dec. 30, 1833. By the above marriage there have been five children-- Sally, born May 27, 1853 (she is the wife of George Deyo, living at Strawberry Point); Fedeor, born Aug. 12, 1855, died Jan. 3, 1870; George W., born Dec. 26, 1858, married, and living on the homestead; Julian D., born Dec. 27, 1860; Wilfred L., born June 17, 1863. Mr. S. and wife were members of the Baptist church. He voted the Republican ticket. Mr. Sloan died Mar. 26, 1882, of neuralgia of the heart. He was highly respected and beloved by all who knew him, and although he has gone his good works, which were many, live after him.
