William K. Rulon, merchant, Wood Centre, was born in Elk Township, Clayton County, on July 20, 1850, and was one of six children born of Joseph and Mary Rulon, who came from Indiana to Clayton some thirty-five years ago. He was reared and educated in this county, and in 1878 engaged in the mercantile business in Wood Centre, which he still follows. Though beginning on a small capital he has by perserverance and strict attention to business succeeded in amassing a fine trade. He carries a full and complete stock of general merchandise. He was married to Alice R. Combs on July 31, 1875. They have two children -Claudie, born May 6, 1876, and Earl, Feb. 25, 1882. Mr. Rulon served two years as Postmaster, and is now acting as deputy in that capacity under R. G. Ash. He is a Republican in his political views.
