George H. Peters, M.D., was born in Clarion County, Penn., July 13, 1853, and was a son of John Peters and Marion, nee Stout, natives also of the Keystone State. When he was about two years old, his parents came to Clayton County, Iowa, and settled on a farm. He assisted on the farm and attended the district school, also two terms at the Collegiate Institute, at Wilton, Iowa. During this time taught school three terms, and when twenty years old went to Wilton and studied medicine under Drs. Witham and Cooling, one year. He then went to Ohio and attended Miami Medical College, at Cincinnati, one year, teaching school the following summer and fall in Ohio. He studied under Dr. Chase, of Elkader, Iowa, one year, then entered the Rush Medical College of Chicago, from which he graduated in February, 1876. He immediately begun the practice of his profession in Edgewood, where he has since resided, devoting all his time and talents to his calling, and has met with good success. He is a member of Lodge No. 130, A.F. & A.M., at Strawberry Point, and in politics is a Republican.
