L.M. Wilson was the first of 32 mayors who have served the city of Osceola since its incorporation as a town in 1866. In addition to being the town's first mayor, he was also the most reelected mayor, having been named to that office at four elections.
During the first years, the election of city officials took place every year, but commencing in 1887, as nearly as we can determine, the bi-ennial odd-year election came into being. During those early days the councilmen were called trustees, and the first group of trustees were chosen at an election on May 25, 1867, with M.L. Wilson as mayor. The election went off quietly to general satisfaction.
These first trustees included: A. Knotts, A.C. Johnson, N. McGrew, A.H. Burrows, James Rice, and M.B. Reese, Recorder. The first street commissioner is 1866 was a Mr. Alexander... and what a trial he must have had!
