The Galbraith Methodist church was organized in rural Newell one mile east of Newell on the SE corner of Sec. 16, Newell Twp., in 1889 and for many years enjoyed a large and active membership.  However, with the closing of the country schools, many of the younger members started attending church in Newell with their town friends, and with a dwindling membership, the church was discontinued in 1953.
