The Santa on the mill was from the Bulletin Journal Independence Iowa Thursday December 29th 1949. "This Christmas panorama located on the roof at the "Old Mill" has been a familiar sight to local shoppers and residents for nearly two weeks now. It includes old Saint Nick in his sleigh, four reindeer and Christmas trees in the background. Both the local senior and junior Chambers of Commerce sponsored the decoration and provided the workers. Chairman was Charles Dannenbrink assisted by A. L. Anderson, Kirby Smith, Ed Deke, Johnny Jones, Lester Hoffman, G. O. Remme, Dean Mace and Dorrance McAveary. Mrs. Remme and Mrs. Dannenbrink took care of the necessary sewing. The Christmas trees were donated by West Side Food Market.
