Greenwood Cemetery

Greenwood Prairie Chapel/Bear Creek School (abandoned): Jefferson Twp, section 26

This abandoned cemetery lies 1 1/2 miles east of Brandon on the north side of Highway 283 at the W17 corner. Greenwood Chapel was Wesleyan Methodist according to the 1881 Buchanan County History Book. Bear Creek School stood across Highway 283 from the Chapel and cemetery.

The following information was taken by Bill Reedy, who walked the cemetery while it was still in existence and compiled the information. Corresponding information was taken from the WPA records compiled in the late 1930's. Truman Allen was listed only in the WPA records. Note - footstone T. A. still existed when Bill Reedy walked the cemetery.
