Gerald Leroy “Jerry” Schultz
March 14, 1933 ---- June 27, 2022

Gerald (Jerry) Leroy Schultz was born March 14th, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa to Wesley William and Vena Ione (Schutt) Schultz. He grew up in Renwick, Iowa, where he made lifelong friends who got together monthly for dinner. Jerry enlisted in the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged as a Specialist 3 in 1957. He was united in marriage on August 22nd 1959, to Patricia Conway Schultz in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where they raised their family. They had five children, Bobbie Vinton (Scott), of Grand Haven, Michigan; Ronda Barger (Gary), of Savage, Minnesota; Becky Schultz (Ted), of Farmington, Minnesota; Doug Schultz; and Dennis Schultz (Missy), of Goldfield, Iowa.

Jerry was a truck driver at Umthun's Trucking in Eagle Grove for 36 years. He was recognized by Umthun's Trucking in 1985 for driving 2 million miles accident free and again in 1995 for driving 3 million miles accident free. In 1992 he received a brand new, GMC pickup when he was awarded Driver of the Year. He loved his job and retained a vast knowledge of the interstate highways well after retirement.

Jerry was also very active in the Eagle Grove Community. He was the Head Usher at Samuel Lutheran Church for 26 years. He coached the Smoke Shop slow pitch team to many a victory for several years in the 70's and 80's. He was an avid bowler, participating in the Peterson Classic in Chicago every year from 1980-1990 with Pat and occasionally his son, Dennis. His passion for bowling was passed to down to several of his children and grandchildren.

Jerry was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan, pausing whatever was going on in his day to catch a Hawkeye or Cubs game. The family requested the Chicago Cubs starting lineup be his pallbearers, so they could let him down one last time this season. Unfortunately, they were unable to come through due to a scheduling conflict (typical).

Jerry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Schultz; son Doug Schultz; brother, Ronnie Schultz; sister, Beverly (Schultz) Wright; and son-in-law Scott Vinton.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandson. We will miss his knack for storytelling, his laughter over cups of coffee at the kitchen table, and his delight when his teams pulled off a win.

Visitation is Thursday, June 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. until service time at Foust Funeral home. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
