Ruth Herring of Cold Springs, New York passed away on November 14, 2021. The 60-year-old force of nature carved out a life for herself--though the road less travelled was nonetheless a very interesting journey.

Ruth Marie graced our lives March 13, 1961 to the proud young couple Jerry and Neoma Boland of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Her exuberance for fun and frolic would be gently tamed by her mother’s guidance and assured hand to complete her studies. She is a 1979 graduate of Webster City High School, a year+ at ASU-Tempe, a stint at a local manufacturing plant followed by a European adventure. She would marry Peter Herring as they share a son, Christian, her greatest blessing. At the daunting age of 34 and believing in herself she went on to finish her studies; she matriculated to the University of Colorado Boulder BA-Political Science and a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law 1998-2001. The Y2K summer abroad by way of Nice, France--International Law Program was something she always talked about and cherished. A gutsy move on her part she returned to NYC, sat for the New York bar exam and hammered out a 20-year career as Esquire in securities laws and regulations. Her strengths-a creative problem solver, business analysis, and savvy negotiator and investigator. Ruth, young son and partner, Sidney, plotted quite a course in the Big Apple.

A svelte athletic build, she mastered yoga and skiing, loved the water, beaches and sojourns to the Caribbean, Europe and her beloved Provence. Her impeccable and discerning taste for fashion and design, a glass of wine and well-aged cheese, fine dining peppered always with quality time for close family and friends were the luxuries she allowed herself. Till memory fades and life departs, you live forever in our hearts.

Ruth is survived by her son Christian Herring of California; brother David Boland and nephew Bryce of Minnesota; partner Sidney of New York and a cast of very special extended family. Gone too soon but we love you enough for a lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Boland and Neoma (Steve) Kurtz.
