Edwin Schultz Olson (1920-1986)

Edwin Schultz Olson, the son of Henry and Minnie Schultz Olson, was born in Beaver Township, Humboldt County, Iowa, on July 16, 1920. He grew up on the family farm and received his education in the Beaver Township rural schools and was baptized in the Zion Lutheran faith. He served in the U.S. Army Hospital Corps during World War II, from 1943 to 1946, and served in the France, Rhineland and Central Europe War Zones. On August 4, 1939, he was united in marriage with Myrtle O. Bartzen at Humboldt, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed near Thor for several years and also operated the Edwin Olson Truck Line for several years. The family has lived in Eagle Grove for the past few years.

He died early Tuesday morning, February 4, 1986, at the Olson home in Eagle Grove at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 18 days.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle O. Olson of Eagle Grove; a daughter, Sandy Smith of Eagle Grove; two grandsons, Edward Smith and Allen Smith, Jr., both of Eagle Grove; a sister, Johanna, Mrs. George Day of Humboldt and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John E. Olson and two brothers, August and Cornelius.

Funeral services for Edwin S. Olson, age 65, of Eagle Grove, were held on Saturday, February 8, 1986 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Scott C. Hall, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation was held on Friday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
