Joseph M. West was born September 12, 1901, to August and Susan West at Wright County, Iowa,
near Woolstock. He was raised in Woolstock Township and received his diploma for graduating from the 8th grade at a Woolstock Township School.

On September 8, 1973, he was united in marriage to Rose Stupka Mraz at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. They made their home in Eagle Grove in 1973. He farmed all his life. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove.

Joseph M. West died Monday, October 13, 1997, at the Dows Care Center in Dows, Iowa, at the age of
96. Survivors include four step grandsons, Dennis Mraz and Lynn Mraz, both of Clarion, David Mraz of Des Moines, and Steven Mraz, in the U. S. Army in Germany. He was preceded in death by his
parents and his wife, Rose, in 1984.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 15, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with the Reverend Wayne Droessler officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
