Francis A. Jones died on Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 86.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jones, Eagle Grove; two daughters, Wanda Hassman, and husband, Edward, Huntsville, Texas, and Jean Jones, Kingman, Ariz.; two sons, Richard Pletcher, and wife, Judy, Clarion, Iowa, and Ron Pletcher and wife, Betty, Eufaula, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Clarabelle; son, Leroy Jones; two brothers, Sylvus and Norman Jones; and one sister, Kathryn Jones.

Francis Adrian Jones, the son of Walter and Ada (Knight) Jones, was born on December 21, 1915, in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. He attended Liberty #6 Country School, northeast of Goldfield, and then graduated from Goldfield High School in 1933. He married Clarabelle Kennedy on January 15, 1937, in Humboldt, Iowa. They lived on a farm northeast of Goldfield. She died on July 4, 1973. He married Dorothy Pletcher on November 25, 1978, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Webster City, Iowa, and wintered in Tucson, Ariz., until moving there permanently. They returned to Eagle Grove, Iowa, in 1997 and then to the Rotary Ann Home in 2000. He farmed northeast of Goldfield until 1980, retiring when he was 62. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, where he served as a trustee and elder. He also served on the Administrative Board of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City, Board of Directors of the Goldfield Farmers Elevator Cooperative, and president of the Senior Citizens Club of Webster City. He also belonged to the Evergreen Sporting Association of Goldfield.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 20, 10:30 a.m., at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield; with Reverend Ellen G. Brantley officiating. Burial was held in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
