Benjamin Hagar
22 October 1886 --- 2 March 1976

Benjamin Hagar was born October 22, 1889, at Harvard, Ill., the son of Converse and Adelaide Harned Hagar. He was educated in the Harvard, Illinois schools. He was united in marriage to Laura Eva Van AntWerp, of Capron, Ill. on September 4, 1916 at Capron. Mrs. Hagar died in 1960. The couple had moved to Eagle Grove in 1941, where Ben was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a Roadmaster. In all, he had worked for the Railroad for over 40 years, retiring in 1955.

After Mrs. Hagar's death, he moved to Milwaukee, Wisc., to make his home with his daughter, Geraldine. He returned to Iowa in January of this year to the Belmond Nursing Home. He was a patient at the Belmond Hospital for 1 day prior to his death on March 2, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 10 days.

He is survived by two sons: Robert Hagar, Humboldt; Benjamin Hagar, Jr., Hales Corners, Wisc.; two daughters Geraldine, Mrs. Robert Touchett, Milwaukee, Wisc.; Charlotte, Mrs. Irvin Rockow, Belmond; one sister, Mrs. Hazeldine Wakely, Winnebago, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Hagar was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, White Shrine and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. Rev. Donald Glazier officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.
