John Darrold Sundberg, age 91, of Eagle Grove, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 24th at his home.

John was born on January 11, 1929 in Linn Grove, Iowa, the middle child of John A. and Ethel (Johnson) Sundberg. He grew up on a farm in the area and graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1946.

Upon graduation, he joined Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a service repairman/technician in the Pocahontas, Iowa area. He moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa in 1960 and continued to work for the company in the north central Iowa area until his retirement in June 1993.

On March 2, 1962, he was united in marriage to Margaret Reil at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The couple had two children—Mark in 1964 and Jill in1968.

Post-retirement, John enjoyed fall trips to Wisconsin each year with Margaret, tinkering around the house and garage, and his (sometimes twice) daily trips for coffee around town, often choosing to walk or ride his bicycle. He more recently enjoyed joining and socializing with the group at the senior center each day for lunch.

He served in the Army, stateside, during the Korean War, was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Doris Inman and brother-in-law, Dick Inman; brother-in-law, Arnie Hicks; father-in-law, Fred Reil; mother-in-law, Prudence Reil; and brother-in-law, John Reil, along with several other relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sundberg of Eagle Grove; son, Mark Sundberg of Eagle Grove, Daughter, Jill Lindaman of St. Paul; sister, Donna Hicks of Linn Grove; cousin, Gordon Sundberg and wife Marge of Eagle Grove, sister-in-law, Marcie Reil of Kelseyville, California; and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at a later date.
