March 2, 1933 ---- December 3, 2018

Doris J. (Terwilliger) Chapman, 85, of Eagle Grove passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. An ISU Cyclones themed Celebration of Doris’ Life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 12:00 PM at the Red Shed Event Center, 908 2nd Street North West in Clarion.

Doris was the daughter of Ray and Dorothea (Ernst) Terwilliger and was born March 2, 1933 in Humboldt, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Clarion, graduating from Clarion High School with the class of 1951.

Doris was united in marriage to Frederick Chapman on February 10, 1960 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion. The couple made their home in Clarion, and to this union, daughter Paula was born. Doris worked a variety of jobs over the years, including as a telephone operator, as a bookkeeper at the Clarion elevator, as a teacher’s aide and bus driver in Duncombe and alongside Fred at Farm Service and in maintenance at Evergreen and St. John’s Cemeteries in Clarion. She took “early retirement” at the age of 71 from First Citizens National Bank in Clarion.

Doris loved traveling, going out to eat and playing pitch and 500. She was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to her beloved Iowa State Cyclones. She and Paula attended numerous ISU basketball and football. She attended the 2012 Liberty Bowl in Memphis and enjoyed all the festivities.

Doris was young at heart and spirit despite her numerous health challenges. She was very tech savvy, communicating with family and friends with her iPad and on Facebook. In her retirement, Doris enjoyed driving Veterans to their appointments with the Wright County Veterans Affairs office. She logged more than 100,000 miles during the 14 years she drove. She was very proud to take care of them, as her husband and 5 of his siblings served during World War II.

In her spare time, she loved bird watching and taking care of her pets. She had numerous dogs over the years, most notably her miniature Schnauzers, Thelma and Louise. More recently, she had cats, as they were easier to care for.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Paula Chapman of Highland, Wisconsin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred in 1997 and her brother Lawrence Terwilliger.
