FUNERAL FOR MRS. J. S. FORT AT 2:30 TODAY
Passed Away at 3:30 Monday at the Age of 92. Dr. Robert McGrath, Surviving Relative

Mrs. J. S. Fort, 92, died at her home on West Broadway at 3:30 Monday morning. She had been failing gradually for several months, and the end was not unexpected. Funeral services will be held at the Kubitschek and Kastler Funeral Home this Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. L. W. Wilkinson in charge. Internment will be in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Fort has been a resident of Eagle Grove since 1882. Mr. Fort started a clothing store here at that time. Prior to coming to Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Fort lived on a farm in Linn county, Iowa, where their only child, Blanche was born and who has passed on a few years previous to her father's death. Mrs. Fort's maiden name was Elizabeth Jane Hale. She was united in marriage with John S. Fort in Jackson county, Iowa, March 21, 1871. Mrs. Fort's nearest surviving relative is a grandson, Dr. Robert McGrath of New York City, who arrived here yesterday noon. Mrs. Fort with her husband was active in the building up of this community during the early years of its development. Mr. Fort served several terms as mayor, from 1897 to 1900, and from 1915 to 1921. Mr. Fort passed away, Jan. 7, 1931, at the age of 80 years. He retired from business in 1913. Mr. and Mrs. Fort had a firm and abiding faith in this community and its future. They built the buildings on Broadway now occupied by Leuthold & Hinkley and the Sullivan Style Shoppe.
