Joan Phillis Stensland (Egeland), the daughter of Philip and Mary Egeland, was born March 8, 1928. She resided in Badger, Iowa and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1945. Joan was joined in marriage to her husband, Darryl Stensland, on June 14, 1949. They farmed near Thor, surrounded by a community of many close friends and family. Joan was an active member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church. Resolute of character, with a fortitude of faith, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Joan passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her husband, Darryl Stensland; her parents; sister Jane Hansel; brother Carroll Doyle; four brothers-in-law: Vern Stensland, LeRoyn Stensland, John Sandvig, and Joe Halverson; and three sisters-in-law, Agnes Stensland, Noreen Stensland and JoAnn Halverson. Survivors include three children: Deb Brown of Waukee, Tim Stensland (Annette) of Badger, and Shari Lehman (Curt) of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren: Erik Brown (Jeanne) of Los Angeles, CA; Kirk Brown (Alesha) of Madison, WI; Blake Brown (Emilee) of Prairie City, IA; Cort Brown of Waukee, IA; Hallie Lehman of Joplin, MO; Seth Lehman (Rachel) of Fort Collins, CO; Isaac Lehman of Denver, CO; four step-grandchildren: James Hobbs (Annette) of Chicago; Carrie Grummons (Sam) of Los Angeles; Olivia Slama of Bellingham, WA; and Ian Brown of NC: five great-grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Delphian Sandvig of Humboldt and Gloria Stensland of Thor; sisters Doris Ziegler and Judy (Joe) Vislisel; 17 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 14 from 5:00-7:00 at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Funeral services will be Friday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Ullensvang Lutheran in Thor.
