Mrs. Charles P. Platt died at her apartment in the Paine block late Wednesday night, May 21, after an illness lasting more than a year. She was one of Eagle Grove's oldest citizens having resided here almost continuously since 1882. Her interests centered in her home and family. She was an ideal homemaker, a perfect mother to her children and an obliging, kindly neighbor. The sincerest sympathy of everyone is extended the bereaved children and other surviving relatives.

Obituary

Harriet M. Secord, daughter of James and Harriet Secord, was born Sept. 18, 1849 near the city of Montreal, Canada. At an early age she moved with her parents to Geneseo, Ill., where she lived until her marriage with Charles P. Platt on April 18, 1871. For eleven years they made their home at Clinton, Iowa, where Mr. Platt was employed by the Chicago Northwestern railroad.

In the fall of 1882, she moved with her husband and two children, Everett and Mae to Eagle Grove, where the daughters, Grace and Maude were born and where she spent the remaining years of her life.

Her death occurred at 11:45 p.m. on May 21, 1930 at the age of 80 years, eight months and three days. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. F. A. Scott of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. S. L. Tripp of Chicago, Ill.; her four children and four grandchildren, Phillip and Miriam Platt of Chicago, Ill., and Charles and Joseph Kershaw of Brooklyn, N. Y. Of the surviving children, Miss Mae Platt still lives in Eagle Grove, Everett C. Platt at Bloomington, Ill., Mrs. Grace Kershaw in Brooklyn, New York, and Mrs. Maude Ensey in Chicago.
