Marlys was born August 2, 1937 to Edmund and Margaret (Williamson) Osby in Iowa City. Marlys was raised and educated in the Kanawha area, graduating from Kanawha High School in 1955. Following graduation, Marlys attended Waldorf College in Forest City and worked as a telephone operator in Kanawha before taking a job at the Globe Gazette in Mason City.

Marlys was united in marriage to Larry Wicks on June 15, 1958, at Kanawha Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Kanawha and later on the Wicks family farm in Norway Township following Larry’s discharge from the Army. They were the 3rd generation of Wicks to farm that land.

Marlys’ faith was very strong. She was an active member of Kanawha Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, was active in ladies circle and music in the church. She also lived her faith through her hospitality. She frequently opening her house to others, whether stranded travelers or friends of her children.

Marlys loved golfing, fishing and bowling. She seldom missed any of her children’s school activities or events. She and Larry loved spending time at the lake.

Marlys will be remembered as a great mother and grandmother, insisting that her children each received a college education. She and Larry farmed side by side through thick and thin. She was small but mighty, tenacious, but a peacemaker.

Marlys is survived by her children, Lorie (Frank) Patrick and their son Graham of Alexander, Thomas (Laura) Wicks and their sons Thomas and James of Chickasha, Oklahoma and LeRoy Wicks and his daughters Ashley and Margaret of Kanawha; sister Lois Goeman of Belmond; sister-in-law Pam (Verle) Tate of Lake Cornelia; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry in 2014, brothers Paul Osby, Gordon Osby and Eugene Osby; brother-in-law Don Goeman, sisters-in-law Marge Gabel, Betty Osby and Lucille Osby; brother-in-law Gary Wicks and nephews Kerry Tate and Stacy Tate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Meadows Assisted Living in Clarion or the Kanawha Lutheran Church Sunday School.
