Robert Lyle Miller was born on January 15, 1941 to Guy Elijah Miller and Mabel (Cadwell) Miller in Crawford County, Iowa. Robert was the second youngest of 9 children. He grew up on a farm in rural Manilla, Iowa.

Robert married his best friend and love of his life, Deanna Mae Noelck, on June 9, 1963. They resided in Westside, Carroll, then State Center, Iowa before moving in the fall of 1967 to Galt, Iowa to make their home and raise their family. Robert has been a semi-truck driver for most of his life hauling large construction equipment, farm equipment, bridge beams, concrete for bridges, other construction projects, livestock, and grain. He has also worked construction running caterpillars, hauling dirt/gravel in dump trucks and semi-trucks. Robert worked for several area farmers shelling corn, working ground, hauling grain, and was always ready to do whatever needed to be done next. Robert was an excellent mechanic. He worked on anything from small engines, semi trucks, trailers, construction equipment and farm equipment. If anyone had a question on anything, they would ask Robert and he would have an answer on how to fix it, usually knew where to get the cheapest deals on parts, and included a story or two.

We all loved hearing his stories, adventures of his childhood, youth and the days of hanging with Roy Overturf and the other many friends that he encountered in his lifetime. As Robert’s doctors visits became a bit more frequent with age and the ailments that we encounter with it, he became very well known at the hospitals and doctors offices with his wit he shared with the nurses especially. He liked to give them a hard time and share stores with them. He created a bit of humor and added a bit of sunshine to their day whenever he was there. They knew he was a bit stubborn as well.

Robert has been the Mayor of Galt for many years and prior to that an active city council member, Fire Chief and volunteer on the Volunteer Fire Department in Galt, Iowa.

Robert and Deanna shared a passion for dancing, which is how they met. They would go dancing at dance halls from Storm Lake to Des Moines. Polka, Jitterbug, Two-Step, and Waltz were some of their favorites. They shared that love with their children, who learned how to dance when they were very young. Family weddings and anniversaries were a commonplace for our family to enjoy dancing with relatives and friends. Big Bear Hugs were a routine treat.

Robert enjoyed antique tractors, cars and any tinkering they brought with them. Deer hunting with his sons, daughter-in-law. Playing cards, family reunions, and any time he got to spend with family and teach them a few things through sharing his stories.

Robert is survived by his 5 children: Son Mark (Laura) Miller of Ham Lake, MN, Daughter Mary Miller of Buffalo, MN, Daughter Dawn (David) Keller of Clarion, Iowa, Daughter Amy (Steve) Lamb of Houghton Lake, MI, and Son Guy (Dawn Ann) Miller of Fort Dodge, Iowa. 12 Grandchildren: Sarah (Tim) Yockey, Stacey (Nik) Skripnik, Justin Arteman, James (Sarah) Lamb, Abby Miller, Nathaniel Holmes, Alexandra Keller, Megan Miller, Jacob Miller, Emma Keller, Michael Miller, and Hope Miller. 5 Great Grand Children: Ryan Yockey, Nolan Yockey, Lucas Lamb, Evelyn Lamb and Eleanor Skripnik. One Sister Carol Lee Miller; Sister-in-Law Donna Miller, Sister-in-Law Pat Miller and Brother-in-Law Larry Stauber.
