Arlene L. Adams
(August 7, 1934 - December 29, 2011)

Northwood Anchor, Northwood, Iowa, Wed., Jan 11, 2012, p.10
Arlene L. Adams passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2011, at the Hospice of the Valley Center in Mesa, Arizona, where she had been hospitalized following a brief illness. Arlene was the fourth child of Frank Sr. and Henrietta (Abrahams) Adams, and was born Aug. 7, 1934, in Linden, Iowa, where the Adams family resided before moving to the Northwood area. Arlene was baptized and confirmed at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church near London, Minnesota, and educated in the Northwood School System. She married Phil Hanna of St. Ansgar and traveled worldwide with him when he served in the U.S. Air Force. They had three children, Teresa, Rodney and Sonja. Wherever Phil was stationed, Arlene packed the family and household goods and moved. They lived in Biloxi, Mississippi; the island of Okinawa; Morocco; and Spain before eventually settling in Rapid City, South Dakota. She and Phil were divorced; he passed away in March 1994. After her divorce, Arlene moved to Pharr, Texas, where she managed the Tropic Star Mobile Home Park for many years. Upon her retirement from the park, she moved to Arizona to be closer to her daughters, and worked as a home health aide before retiring. In recent years, Arlene spent the summers in Rapid City with her daughter, Teresa and the winters in Mesa with her daughter Sonja. She was an avid gardener and maintained a lush and beautiful garden at both Teresa’s and Sonja’s. Her blooms will be a constant reminder of her presence in their lives. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Sr. and Henrietta Adams; her grandson, Tony Matson, her sister, Harriet Adams Anderson; and many other relatives. Arlene is survived by her loving daughters, Teresa (Roger) Walton and Sonja (Jeff) Flahart, and her son, Rodney. Also, her grandchildren, Sheila (Matthew) Wingler, Dustin Flahart, Tovah (Brandon) Woodcock, Trisha (Tom) Olson and Marcus Gasco; and her great grandchildren, Toni Lynn, Steven and Alyssa Wingler and Jaxon Woodcock. Survivors also include her sisters, Frances Guertin of Mason City, Delores Marsh of Mason City, Gloria Helgeson of Kensett and Marilyn Lagios of Clear Lake; her brothers, Frank (Judi) and Albert Adams of Northwood; her aunt, Dorothy Abrahams Strong of Bozeman, Montana, and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins in the North Iowa and Minnesota area. Arlene’s body was cremated and a memorial service will be held for her in Rapid City in June.
