Virginia Mae Ueker Walk, age 94, of Grafton, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 308 4th Avenue in Grafton, with Pastor Solveig A.H. Zamzow officiating. Inurnment will be in the Grafton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Following services, there will be a time to greet the family and have lunch at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Hall.

Virginia was born on April 27, 1924, in Grafton, Iowa, the youngest daughter of John and Alvina (Braun) Ueker. She was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on May 18, 1924, and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on April 9, 1939. Virginia graduated from Grafton High School in 1943, and attended nurse’s training at St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Sioux City. She became a surgical nurse at Mercy Hospital in Mason City and Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage, and went on to become a County Nurse for Worth County Public Health for 22 years.

She continued to be a caretaker of others throughout her life. She was a devoted nurse for 50 years and enjoyed caring for people. She was an active resident of Grafton and a lifelong active member of the church. Virginia was united in marriage to Lowell Walk on January 23, 1949, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton and they spent 69 ½ happy years together. They had one child, Nancy, who was lucky to have such a wonderful mother.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Lowell Walk of Grafton; daughter, Nancy Walk of Grafton; six nephews and nieces, Bruce (Pam) Knapp, John (Lynn) Knapp, Diane Ruebling, Mike Roppe, Mark (Tracy) Walk, and Anne (Harry) Hammond; and many extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Gladys Ueker, Dorothy Knapp and Lola Roppe.
