January 9, 1935 - June 13, 2017

Northwood, Iowa - Bonnie Mae Hengesteg, 82, Northwood, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

At Bonnie's request, a private family celebration of her life will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. There will be a public celebration of her life on Monday, June 19, 2017, starting at 12:00 Noon at the Northwood Veterans of Foreign Wars, 800 8th Street North, Northwood.

Bonnie Mae Hengesteg was born on January 9, 1935, near Gordonsville, Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ross and Alice (Seuser) Herman.

Bonnie attended grade school at Gordonsville and Riverside near Glenville, MN, and graduated from Northwood High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Dean Sandberg in 1956, and to this marriage they had three children, Tim, Tom, and David. Tim died in 1963, at age 4, and her husband was killed in 1966.

Bonnie was united in marriage to Truman Hengesteg in 1973. They lived on a farm west of Northwood until his death in 2003, and at this time, Bonnie moved into Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, David (Mary) Sandberg and their children, Mathew, and Shelly (Tony) Kozak, and Tom (Marianne) Sandberg and their children, Dan (Sarah) and Steven; three step-children, Cinda Rustad and her daughters, Kelly, Angie, and Hailee, David (Sue) Hengesteg and their children, Matt and Courtney, Sue (Claude) Johnson and their children, Lauren and Kasey; a sister-in-law, Ann (Dale) Johnson; a brother-in-law, and Dale Sandberg; many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her son, Timothy and first husband Dean Sandberg; her parents, Ross and Alice Herman; her second husband Truman Hengesteg; two brothers, Merle and Verle Herman, her sister, Mary Jaspers, her sisters-in-law, Liz Sandberg, Leona Herman, and her brothers-in-law, Lee Jaspers, and Rodney Hengesteg.
