MARRIED AT 13 YEARS. The Child Wife Now Will Go to the Reformatory
Young Sadie Waddington, aged 15 years, who is being detained in the women's ward at the police station, at one time wrote her name Mrs. Frank Bond. She was married at the age of 13 years in spite of the protests of Police Matron Thurston and J. E. Huffman, who was humane officer at the time. Mrs. Jane Waddington, mother of the girl, desired her to marry Bond, who was about 30 years of age and looked much older. So the 13-year-old child was made a wife. Later she and her husband separated, according to Police Matron Thurston, and the girl has been living with her mother. People living in the neighborhood declare she is a bad girl and uses foul language. Yesterday Judge Gaynor, of the district court, ordered the girl sent to the industrial school at Mitchellville. Mrs. Waddington, for whom also a warrant was issued, charging her with disturbing the peace, was arrested. She declares she is not guilty of the charge, and asked for time to get witnesses to prove her innocence. The case was set for trial next Monday.
