He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and was on the board of directors of the Ida County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include the widow; five daughters, Mrs. James (Betty) Eickholt of Correctionville, Mrs. Michael (Connie) Collins of Ida Grove, Mrs. Robert (Joan) Bengford of Arthur and Judy and Becky, both at home; five sons, Dean, Larry, Leon, James and Kenneth, all of Danbury; five grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Venteicher of O'Neill, Neb. two sisters, Mrs. Harry Leas of Omaha and Mrs. Thomas Goeken of West Point, Neb.; and two brothers, Sylvester of Meadow Grove, Neb., and Ferdie of Omaha.

The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton by members of the parish and at 8:15 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus.
