Ronald J. “Ron” Uhl, 85, died Friday, January 8, 2021, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm Thursday, January 14, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton, IA with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mapleton. Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ronald John “Ron” Uhl, the son of Joseph and Pearl (Altmanshofer) Uhl was born June 23, 1935, in Mapleton, IA. He helped out on the family farm and attended school in Mapleton.

On May 3, 1952, Ron was united in marriage with Agnes M. Eickholt in Anthon, IA. He was a lifelong farmer until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, Ron became very involved with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and also served as the caretaker for many years, which included lawn care for St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Ron was also employed by First Security Bank, then known as Valley Bank, performing custodian duties. The couple moved to Sioux City in 2009. Agnes died February 15, 2016.

Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton, the Knights of Columbus, the Men’s Club, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and Usher. He enjoyed watching Westerns, especially featuring John Wayne.

Ron is survived by his children, Pam (Jack) Fulton, Karen (Glen) Forbes, Linda Maynard, Lori (Randy) Huggenberger, Robert “Rob” (Nyla) Uhl; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Donna Uhl; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Steve Uhl; and 12 siblings, Cecilia (Matt) Flammang, Vincent Uhl (infancy), Joseph Uhl (infancy), Bernice (Fred) Kuhlman, Delbert (Donna) Uhl, Laurine (Roy) Kluver, Raymond Uhl (infancy), Rita (Tom) Fitzpatrick, Viola (Jim) Marksbury, Donald (Lois) Uhl, Wilma (Howard) Stanton, and Edwin Uhl (infancy).

The family has requested that memorials be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton. The family would also like to extend gratitude to the staff and administration at Sunrise Retirement Community and Hospice of Siouxland for their wonderful care and support that they provided.
