Virgil 'Archie' Morehead

SIOUX CITY - Virgil L. "Archie" Morehead, 77, of Sioux City died Friday, May 29, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Archie was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Akron, Iowa, to Clair and Christine (Miller) Morehead. He graduated from Akron High School in 1950, where he played baseball and basketball.

He married Shirley A. Enockson on Aug. 6, 1950, in Atlantic, Iowa. Archie worked at several Sioux City businesses over the years.

He was a longtime member of Morningside Lutheran Church as well as the Blue Masonic Lodge 104 A.F. & A.M. and the White Horse Mounted Patrol. Archie was an avid golfer and great sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Sioux City; four children, Charles Morehead and his wife, Patty of Sioux City, Nancy Bramstedt and her husband, Barry Of Hinton, Iowa, Scott Morehead and his wife, Susan of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Terry Morehead and his wife, Elizabeth of Sioux City; a sister, Janice Morehead of Akron, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Tracy Van Ginkel and her husband, Steve and their children, Meggan, Blake and Brody; Christy Morehead; Laura Morehead; Allison Poulson and her husband, Will and their daughter, Hannah; Ashley Kooken and her husband, Kirk and their son, Nash; Michelle Sandin and her husband, Jeff and their daughters, AUie and Leah; Becky Anderson and her husband, Jake and their son, Max; Brandon Morehead, Melissa Davis and her husband, Nick and their daughter, Kaydence; and Nathan Morehead; and three step-grandchildren, Falon, Chris and JoAnn Calvillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Norman; an infant sister, Sharon; twin granddaughters, Sally and Sarah Bramstedt; his step-father, Ty Ryan; and a step-sister, Jacquelynn Manning.

Pallbearers will be Steve Van Ginkel, Will Poulson, Kirk Kooken, Jeff Sandin, Jake Anderson, Brandon Morehead, Nathan Morehead, Chris Calvillo and Nick Davis.

Memorials may be made in his name to Morningside Lutheran Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
