Edward E. Helkenn Sr.

SIOUX CITY - Edward Elmer Helkenn Sr., 88, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturdav at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.co m.

Edward was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Quimby, Iowa, to William Edward and JoHanna (Vandebroek) Hollingshead. He graduated from Quimby High School. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Navy.

He was married to Mary K. Henderson on Feb. 14, 1941, in Sioux City. She preceded him in death in July 1992, in Sioux City.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He loved sports and watching the San Diego Chargers, fishing and traveling. He was a friend of Bill W. for 46 years.

He is survived by four children, Sherry (Marlon) Kutzler of Sloan, Iowa, Ed E. (Terri) Helkenn Jr. of Winchester, Ore., Patti (David) Bauerly of Sioux City and Deborah (Louis) Jones of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and six grandchildren, Gary, Jenny, Max, Nate, Matt and Samantha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.
